Had an amazing 3 weeks volunteering in Sri Lanka this summer! It was organized very well and the staff at the accommodation were always super helpful and attentive to any issues. In our free time they organized lots of activities like bonfires, karaoke nights and kayaking. Overall would 100% recommend ☺️

I spent 3 weeks in Tanzania at the dog sanctuary and child care. Both of these placements although very different to the uk, as expected, were amazing. The dog sanctuary is still developing and still learning, but the staff dedication and love for the dogs gave them a happy environment and helped the new arrivals gain confidence. The child care placement in the Masai village was equally good. The children are happy and love to be picked up and cuddled. Although it was sad at times to see the conditions they lived in, often in mud huts, experiencing their culture and way of life was a unique experience that you wouldn’t experience if you didnt spend time there. The accommodation in Moshi was good and the staff at summit lodge hotel were all lovely. All the meals where provided and there where some cafes and restaurants near by that where lovely. Transport was also provided and although it could sometimes take a while to arrive as there was often a few people wanting a lift at once it did always turn up. This provided free transport with drivers that you get to know rather than having to find your own. The free transport was available all day until 6 after which you had to pay a small fee. There where may trips like to a hot spring and waterfall as well as weekly football with the Masai and karaoke which could all be attend for a small fee and definitely worth it. There was also the opportunity to attend a weekend trip to Zanzibar or a safari which were both amazing experiences. I also did the 7 day Kilimanjaro trek to the summit which although quite tough and a challenge was an amazing and rewarding experience. Overall as a first time solo traveller I would recommend both the dog sanctuary and childcare placements as well as the mighty roar who were organised and clear with their communication to anyone.

My time in Montenegro with DMAD was enjoyable enough, but did not live up to the expectations that were set beforehand.

I did 4 weeks in Mawenzi Hospital in Tanzania. Absolutely loved it. The mighty roar (child hope) staff are fantastic at Comfy Stay Hotel. The hospital, despite being frustratingly slow and very different from the UK, the doctors were really welcoming and let us get as involved as we wanted. Very chilled placement dynamic. You get out of it what you put in. - 3 good meals a day, quite carb based/oily but good! Lovely chefs - Lotsss to do organised by the team: hot springs (highly rec), waterfall, Kili base camp hike, dancing, karaoke, bike ride, paint and sip night, playing football every week at the Maasai Village - Special mention to the safari weekend - amazing few days, great sightings and fantastic guide, thank you Timmy! - Lots to do locally, cafes/roof top bar - Hostel staff are lovely - shoutout to German, Ally, Dennis, Zachariah & Beatrice - Transport was so easy - the drivers took us anywhere we wanted, to and from projects, to ATM, to cafes etc, sometimes you had to wait a little while for someone to be organised to get to you but it was worth it for the hassle of not paying for tuktuks/taxis - Shoutout to Danny for teaching us Swahili on the drives. We loved the other drivers Rama, Benson, Mustapha, and Samson were incredibly helpful getting us between places with guidance if we needed - Alice and Emmanuel who run everything were very helpful - Accommodation is really nice I have no complaints, felt safe and supported if we needed it. The hospital was an experience but once you figure it out, it’s a great hands on experience if you want it to be, but you’re not expected to get involved if you’re not confident. Highly recommend doing TMR project in Tanzania :)

I spent six weeks in Tanzania doing childcare with The Mighty Roar. What stuck out to me the most was the friendly staff at at Summit Kilimanjaro Lodge and the drivers with The Mighty Roar. Everyone met us with a smile, reflecting the happy Tanzanian culture as a whole. The staff at Summit hotel were amazing, especially Sia who is so sweet, and great at her job. I loved the childcare project, and although our role was not concrete, I did find that the more you put in, the more you would get out of your time there. The children are so wonderful, always happy and asking for cuddles. Also, I really enjoyed the day trips to the waterfall and hot springs, and would highly recommend as it is a great way to explore and see more of Tanzania. I would highly recommend spending time in Tanzania with TMR!

Medical Elective
Sep 28,2024

I’ve just spent 4 weeks in Moshi, Tanzania on my medical elective. I’ve had a great time and would definitely recommend it :) The hospital placement was very good, you can rotate between whichever wards you’d like - very interesting to see how different things are! You get transport every morning to and from placement and also free transport to wherever you’d like in Moshi - sometimes this can take a while but the drivers always arrive (you learn quickly about things being ‘pole pole’). The accommodation has everything you need and the staff are very attentive and try their best to fix any issues you have. The food was always great and there were also lots of good places to eat out if you fancied it! I really enjoyed going into Moshi town centre - we found it best to be dropped off at a certain place and walk around as pretty much everything was in walking distance once you were in town. I found that people were very friendly, but be prepared for people wanting to sell you things etc! You get used to this very quickly though and it’s all part of the fun. I did most of the trips available and really enjoyed them! I thought they were good value for money and easy to sign up to. Definitely recommend the safari! There’s also karaoke and football every week which are really good fun - the drivers take you and bring you back so you always know you’ve got a lift home which is reassuring. Thank you to comfy stay and all the staff for a great time :)

I spent 4 weeks volunteering in Moshi, Tanzania. Everything was well organised beforehand, and our airport transfer was seamless. The accommodation is a pleasant stay, cleaned daily and the communal area is great for solo travellers. I really enjoyed the food. Everything was great and the whole kitchen team (including waiters/ waitresses, chefs etc) were lovely and accommodating. As a female traveller, I felt safe in knowing that drivers from TMR were available to take us into Moshi, and pick us up. There were sometimes slightly longer wait times than we were expecting, but the drivers did always show up and were very friendly towards myself and my group. A lift is required to get into the town centre due to distance, but once there we walked around everywhere rather than getting lifts between places. The town centre is very walkable, and we found that we learned a lot more about Moshi culture and met lots of lovely people whilst doing this. It was really nice to be greeted by lots of locals in the streets, and we never felt unsafe in the town. The daily transport to the local hospital for our medical placement was reliable and on time. All of the staff at Comfy Stay Hostel were great and could not do enough for you! There are so many amazing trips on offer, we did most of them and were not disappointed once. Would highly recommend. I had a great time here, and would encourage anyone who is on the fence to visit!

The team at TMR made my experience feel like a home away from home. Ayomi, Karu, Uncle and the team were so welcoming and warm. The accommodation was amazing considering the price and I looked forward to the food every day! Hopefully I’ll be back one day!

I have spent almost 2 weeks in Lixouri Kefalonia and while I was somewhat hesitant about starting this trip I can happily say now that this has been one of the best experiences I've done so far. All core members I have met in lixouri have been kind, understanding and helpful throughout my time here and since getting to know all three a little better I could not have wished for better leaders. Any issues I've had (like straining my ankle on a beach survey that resulted in a hospital trip or simply being homesick) has been met with such kindness and care that I have felt so at ease to tell them what has been bothering me. No issue was too small and no question too silly, the core team here would always sit, listen and talk to me about anything I had to say and it really has made my experience and time here so much better. This too, can also be reflected in the relaxed atmosphere within the accommodation, it feels like we have all been brought together as a group. The level of work here is mostly what I expected it to be. Any conservation project will have you walking miles and working in less than favourable weather's but I feel like my safety has always been top priority, with the ability to talk with the core members to discuss whether a flooded beach is safe to cross or not cycling through a thunderstorm. I am grateful to the wildlife sense organisation, in allowing me to travel here and truly learn what it means to have a part in conservation work and to learn from the Chanel Comis just how important loggerhead sea turtles are for our oceans. The many skills I have learnt during my 2 weeks feel so valuable and is something I will definitely be keeping with me as I move onto my final year in Uni. Thank you Wildlife Sense, our 3 amazing core members of lixouri and to the other volunteers I have spent these 2 weeks with. I hope I never forget this experience.

Absolutely amazing experience in Vietnam. The local staff were all amazing and so willing to help with anything you needed. Loved the balance between being in the hospitals and being able to travel and discover the beautiful country. The rooms were all clean with good air conditioning and the house was in a very nice location to get to the main parts of the city. Would definitely recommend booking your own little weekend trips to different parts of Vietnam whilst your out there to help make the most of the experience. Loved this experience and hopefully I am able to do another in the next few years.

The preparation for my trip to greece was made so much easier with The Mighty Roar, they provided plenty of information on what to do before leaving and the communication was great. Doing marine and coastal conservation in greece was such an amazing experience and I met a group of people which are likeminded and so easy to get along with which made my experience so much fun! The shifts were so interesting and informative and i’ve loved getting to know more about turtles and posidonia seagrass and being a volunteer in such a beautiful place!

It truly made my stay smooth and stress-free there was amazing drivers( Benson, Emmanuel, Ramadan, Daneil) on site .
