The mighty roar were a good company and were helpful when I needed any assistance with my volunteer programme. I would use them again. I volunteered in Madagascar on the turtle conversation programme and then did teaching in the second week. I have to say I had an absolutely amazing time but in comparison to other volunteer companies I have worked with, I would unfortunately have to say they have been one of the worst. I was disappointed by the turtle conservation programme as there wasn’t much conservation on the programme. We would do turtle watches and snorkel every day to see them. On the programme it said you go to Ampoagna every fortnight (where there is the opportunity to do more turtle conservation) but I wasn’t offered this, another volunteer had the opportunity to go once in his 11 week stay. Turtles don’t nest on the beach on nosy Komba anymore unfortunately, there is a lot of light pollution along the beach and dogs which disrupt the nests. I loved my teaching volunteering so would recommend that! And regards the accommodation, personally I thought it was nice for Madagascar given their poverty and the staff were really helpful and attentive. Unfortunately, the vast majority of volunteers got unwell with D&V, potentially due to the general poor sanitation but there is also a rescue lemur on the premises (who is super lovely) but he will eat and lick the food we are served.
Participated in the Shamwari conservation for 1 month and had an amazing time. All the coordinators were really nice and helpful. The mighty roar made it easy to organise
My volunteering experience in Moshi was excellent. From the moment I was picked up at the airport, the local team made me feel welcome. Everything about the project was very well organized. Teaching at Soweto School with Deputy Head Martha was a great experience. The students were eager to learn, and the activities we did in class were fun and engaging. The other activities, like visiting the waterfalls, making coffee, and playing football, were amazing. They helped me connect with the local culture and community. The staff were very helpful and always made sure we had everything we needed. Emmanuel and his team were fantastic and made sure we were taken care of throughout. This experience was meaningful and memorable. I highly recommend volunteering in Moshi to anyone who wants to help and learn. Thank you to the whole team for making it so special!
Had a fantastic experience and the mighty roar went above and beyond to make sure I had a really good experience. Would totally recommend them for future trips
Firstly, I would recommend booking one week and then extending your volunteering at HALF the cost per week which many volunteers did whilst I was there. Secondly, I found the safety of volunteers in the accomodation to be poor. During the second week of my stay (the Sri Lankan election) there were large groups, predominantly male, gathering outside of the volunteer accomodation, some even sitting on the steps of the ground floor rooms meaning volunteers had to walk through them to access their living space. This made me and others feel uncomfortable and at unease. Thirdly, for the price you pay per week, the accomodation is disappointing to say the least. I understand Sri Lanka is a third world country, however, the accomodation is to a very basic standard (somewhat unhygienic) and functional amenities cut out on a daily basis. Additionally, I understand the humidity, the sea air and air conditioners are contributing factors to mould occurring, however, it should be sufficiently REMOVED from walls and ceilings before being painted over. Finally, on the turtle programme, making ‘Eco Bricks’ is nowhere to be found in the TMR handbook. It involves collecting rubbish from the beach and then pushing it into plastic bottles which is VERY unhygienic.
Everything was taken care of. Nice staff, smooth process. Unfortunately a little complex and some time upfront needed. Not easy to book something on short notice, even tho it eventually worked out in my case.
In November, I spent three weeks participating in a conservation program in South Africa. I was recommended to go through The Mighty Roar by a friend who had great experiences with them, and since it was my first time embarking on a trip like this, I decided to give it a try. I’m incredibly grateful for all the support provided by The Mighty Roar. They truly make sure you’re well-prepared for your journey. Their team is always available, even on weekends, to answer any questions you might have. At the start of the process, I had a really helpful online meeting where we chatted about everything and went over how it all works. It gave me a lot of confidence and clarity. If you’re considering volunteering abroad but feel nervous or want everything to be well-organized, I can highly recommend The Mighty Roar. They offer a wide range of programs and really think along with you to find the best fit. On top of that, I had an absolutely amazing time in South Africa—an experience I’ll never forget!
Friendly team and Great diving on the Bali diving conservation programme.
My experience in Bali . Child care The children are so enthusiastic so polite lovely. You are only in the school 2 hours a day 30 minutes of that time is playing and they certainly love to play . Accommodation was clean. I was in a dorm of 4 beds 1 minute away from the main area . The food was fantastic tasty mostly buffet style. Staff at site were helpful, booking taxis etc . I am 63 I travelled on my own , I didn't feel old I fitted in with the young crowd and come home to lovely memories.
I volunteered with TMR at Amakhala Game Reserve and had a great time, the whole process was very smooth and they are very responsive. Any query big or small was answered swiftly and professionally. I really recommend Amakhala, you get to experience both community and conservation, the team there are absolutely fantastic.
Reasonable price, also so many activities available to see the country and experience the culture. Proper lovely team and such a good glimpse into medical world
I had the most incredible journey for the past 3 and half weeks , Teaching in Nairobi - I had the chance to meet so many people and was well looked after at the Volunteer House, Dr Wilfred and Paulina who hosted me at the their beautiful home in Nairobi took good care of all our needs and made me feel right at home - The time there is made easy by being able to contact several people in case you need anything and transport. Thanks to the additional trips you can add on during the selection of the programme , I was able to visit Zanzibar and Masai Mara where I made the most unforgettable memories with other volunteers i met along the journey and have had the chance to make new friends who I will keep in touch with ! I would recommend this opportunity to everyone , Once again thanks Might Roar !! You will see me again !
The team at the mighty roar were very helpful and answered any questions I needed help with. I had an amazing time during my volunteering and the team were always on the other end of the line to get into contact if needed. I had an amazing experience and would use TMR again on my next adventure!
The Mighty Roar Sri Lanka was a great experience and I do highly recommend this to people wishing to do affordable and interesting volunteering in a place with easy access to great weekend trips. During my time in Sri Lanka I helped to release 83 baby sea turtles, bury over 200 eggs and contributed to the community through beach cleaning and helping with childcare on some mornings. The accommodation is clean and the food is delicious. The weekend trips to the Maldives and Hill country were exceptional and Ayomi, Thaksi and the local team are helpful with places to visit in time off. However, during my stay here the amount of strange locals on site was rather annoying as time progressed. Although I appreciate this is the family home me and the other volunteers didn't feel comfortable with them using the volunteer space, and on one evening told us to stay in our dorms just so they could have a meeting. I don't think that's what we signed up for and something should really be done about it to avoid people feel uncomfortable...That aside a memorable time.
All the staff are great and do the upmost to make the volunteers feel welcome and comfortable. I would like to especially point out zacharia who was always giving 110% to cater for the volunteers. Daniel the driver is also amazing and made us always feel safe when leaving the premises. German is another who is always full of joy and never fails to put on a smile on everyone’s face! you have a lovely team who work very hard and they were a massive contributing factor my making my experience so great! They also ensured that everybody saw as much of the city as possible and was enjoying their volunteer work. Wishing them all the best.
Amazing company, helping with any problem I had at a moment notice!
I had a fantastic time back in June/July for my nursing elective in Sri Lanka which is such a beautiful place. Ayomi and her family were so welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. The accomodation is basic but as expected and has everything you need to get by and located close to amenities or a short TukTuk ride away. When we arrived we were collected from the airport and brought to the accomodation and the weekend was full of activities and sight seeing all arranged by Ayomi and her family. We had plenty of opportunity to travel and Ayomi and Thaski were so helpful in helping us make arrangements. In terms of the volunteering experience it was very eye opening and invaluable experience even though we could not actively be involved in care the Drs were friendly, spoke very good English and allowed us to shaddow them on rounds or while giving treatment. The herbal clinics and hospitals were especially interesting. 100% would recomment this to anyone wanting to try an affordable volunteer experience.
Amazing! Our stay in tanzania was made perfect by Comfy Stay hostel staff. They could not do enough for you! a special mention to zacharia, Ali, German and Dennis who all made our stay home from home. The provision of the drivers is perfect, Daniel and Rama were so caring and considerate always. It has been one of the best experiences of my life. The school where we did the childcare was an eyeopener. All of the children are so friendly and happy all of the time. The teachers are helpful and the local community are wonderful. I loved the game of football against the Masai. The organised trips were out of this world - I especially loved the painting night with the live music and German singing and dancing made our night! Everyone should go.
The Mighty Roar Medical Volunteering Programme in Sri Lanka exceeded all my expectations! From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and supported by Ayomi and her friendly team, who provided guidance every step of the way and was very helpful regardless of what was asked. The opportunity to work in local hospitals and clinics was invaluable, giving me hands-on experience with a wide range of medical cases. The cultural immersion was fantastic as well – I got to explore Sri Lanka’s beautiful landscapes and connect with the local community, who were warm and appreciative of our efforts. This programme truly gave me a new perspective on global healthcare, and I left with skills, memories, and friendships that I’ll cherish forever. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to make a difference while gaining unique medical experience!” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
