I cannot fault the Sri Lanka team at all! Charith and tahksi were so great during the volunteering experience and made us feel at home and made it so easy! The childcare volunteering was great and couldn’t have asked for a better team. Then for the travel experience Karu was the sweetest man ever and made the experience amazing! He always made the effort to talk to us and nothing was ever too much, he was always there to help us and tell us historic facts! Amazing experience and would 10000% come back.

I was with the mighty roar in Sri Lanka for my 2 week medical placement and I loved it! Charith and all of the staff were so accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure we were all having a good time. The weekly trips and activities were really good and the accommodation was great. I would definitely recommend!

I can’t praise the staff more they were absolutely amazing and went to such lengths to ensure we all had an amazing time. The mighty roar accommodation is lovely and very close to attractions. I did 3 weeks in Sri Lanka and overall, my experience with TMR was great! The community was so lovely, with all the staff being so friendly and fun, and it was so easy to make friends with the other volunteers. I know some people have had not so amazing experiences, but I honestly believe that if you go into it with a negative outlook, that is what you will get back (and vice versa). I've read some bad reviews about food and water not working in the rooms, but you have to remember that it is a developing country and the staff are trying their best. I personally thought the food was delicious, getting Sri Lankan cuisine in a buffet style everyday. Also, whenever the water wouldn't work, it was back within the next hour at most. The main reason my review isn't 5 stars, is because Chris, one of the coordinators of the company, always came across as very rude and very blunt, almost putting me off the idea of going in the first place. There was one night when my friends were leaving TMR and the staff said that we could extend the curfew by an hour to go out for dinner, and Chris deleted the messages from the staff on the group chat and told us we couldn't, basically because he didn't want us to. There wasn't a specific reason as to why. Apart from him, I had a wonderful time!

I had the most amazing time in Sri Lanka with my family. Would recommend to anyone wanting to travel with children and we will definitely be returning. The Mighty Roar Project were so supportive and held my hand every step of the way answered any queries I had with a quick response. Would highly Recommend. Thank you to Ayomi & her family for looking after us.

This site won't let me leave the full review. Look at Facebook, The Mity Roar or Trip Advisor. Please be aware all the programmes run here are disorganised. There are street dogs roaming around the site and bitten volunteers. I did the sea turtle programme, thank goodness for Mammu as he was the keyworker for this and the only one who clarified things. I learnt so much from him. But unless their communication and organisation improves, there will be more people leaving the programme early. If you go, and it's improved, enjoy what could be the trip if a lifetime.

I volunteered in Sri Lanka with my family on the turtle and childcare projects. We managed to see and do so much, I made lots of friends and I will be going back one day in the future.

I recently volunteered in Sri Lanka to help the local community and enjoy the country’s culture. While there were some great moments, there were also challenges that affected the experience. The Sri Lankan staff were amazing—friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. Tdog, Taksi, and Madushan were especially helpful and worked hard to make the experience enjoyable for everyone. The accommodation was clean, comfortable, and close to the beach, which was a nice place to relax after activities. The food was another highlight, with a variety of Sri Lankan dishes served every day. The facilities were quite basic, with some areas being slightly mouldy. However, they were in the process of making adjustments, which showed they were trying to improve things. Unfortunately, the program wasn’t very well organized. We weren’t told beforehand that there wouldn’t be any children around during the Christmas period, which was disappointing since it meant we couldn’t do much, only spending 3 days with the children. When we did volunteer, it was only for three hours a day, and felt we weren’t able to get involved as much as I would have expected on a volunteering program. On the other days where we were not with the children, we spent time cleaning and painting the classroom which was still enjoyable but not what was expected when signing up, especially due to doing this more than being with the children! Many other activities such as sports and a bonfire were also scheduled but did not go ahead or required us organising them ourselves and we were often left not knowing what to do. There was however a changeover of staff during the program, which may have contributed to the lack of organization. The program was also quite expensive for what it was and it wasn’t clear where the money was going. There was little evidence of where the money was going as it did not seem to be going towards the program during the 2 weeks we were there. Even though the lack of organization and cost were frustrating, I still found parts of the experience rewarding. The kindness of the staff and the beautiful location made it enjoyable in other ways. I’d recommend this program, but it needs some improvements. Anyone considering volunteering should confirm what to expect, especially during holiday periods. It would also help if the program explained better how the money is used. With more planning, communication, and transparency, this program could be much better, however it was still an enjoyable experience.

Did the childcare programme in Sri Lanka for 2 weeks! The staff in Sri Lanka was amazing and helped if you needed anything! Lovely beach opposite and close to the town of hikkadewa. The accommodation was nice apart from a few issues with aircon and water but they tried to fix it as soon as possible! Food was also good and had plenty of options. One area that could be improved on is the organisation of the programme. Lots of activities was planned but often not followed through and we had to ask for it to actually happen. Usually though the staff would make it work. I was on the childcare organisation and feel like this organisation could be improved on too. I was there for 2 weeks and only with the children for 3 days and cleaning and painting the nursery on other days. I understand that this was due to them having Christmas holidays, and Christmas shows however I feel as though this should have been told prior. It wasn’t as advertised and if I had known, maybe I would have chosen to do it at another time where I could have been with the children every day. I feel as though the amount you pay for the programme it is not reflected. To get more time with the children I ended up doing the teaching programme in the afternoon too to get more experience. However if there was lots of volunteers this may not have been possible. I understand that there was a few staff off at the time I was there so maybe that affected the organisation! Overall however I still enjoyed my time and think it was a really good experience!

I visited Namibia for 2 weeks and absolutely loved it. The people were accommodating, everything was well organised and my involvement felt seamless. 2 weeks was the perfect amount to get everything in that I wanted at the single place I stayed, however, I would definitely recommend more if you want to explore more of Namibia.

I had a wonderful time in Tanzania. I met amazing people, had so much fun and changed a few lives with my donations. The staff at the hostel were incredible, very polite, helpful and respectful. Our room was cleaned everyday, clothes washed and 3 meals a day. Transport during the day was included, however was not always reliable and ended up getting tuk tuks out of my own money. The trips were amazing however they were overpriced in my opinion. I think the return journey to the airport should also be included in the price.

We participated as a family in the teaching volunteering programme in October. Overall our experience was very good and Ayomi, the local coordinator, and her entire family could not have been more helpful, kind and receptive to balance the needs of the programme with our needs. These people are doing a lot of good in the community! I was impressed by their welcoming reception and the fact that they open their family home to serve the community and accommodate us all. Ayomi has a lot of patience and aims to balance our requests with what can be done locally and also to diplomatically navigate the system to ensure that we can help communities while we also we gain a meaningful experience. I have already recommended the programme amongst my friends that are interested in volunteering work. I retained one star only because some of the rooms, due to expected humidity, developed mold. This is a health and safety concern and should be treated in all rooms. Ayomi did suggest that they would deal with the issue and when raised it with her she immediately offered us an alternative room. So I could not fault her there. Also some of the plumbing is not like what we are used to but functioning so one should adapt for the period of volunteering. Lastly, from time to time, one is reminded that the charity is actually, and naturally, a business for the owners (small details picked up for those with a sharp eye). But this was managed as well as possible and the experience remained overall positive and meaningful! Very well done Mighty Roar, keep doing the good work!!!! If I can support with anything going forward I would.
