Truly an amazing experience, facilitated by the most hard-working and friendly staff at The Comfy Stay. The weekend and day trips were awesome, giving you a glimpse of the beauty of Tanzania. All the other volunteers were lovely and I have no regrets choosing to do my elective with TMR as I met so many like-minded people from all over the world!
I did the medical elective in Sri Lanka, it was amazing so much to see and do! The people are lovely and welcoming, Ayomi and her family were so accommodating and helpful :)
Had an amazing time in Greece, the staff were so friendly and helpful and the experience was more than I imagined. Would highly recommend!
Amazing time in Zimbabwe and would defiantly recommend as not only you are well looked after and the facilities are excellent, it is an amazing way to experience a new culture whilst also making a difference. Some information such as the meeting place etc were out of date on the handbook but other than that the mighty roar handled my travels very well! Thank you!!
My time in Sri Lanka was incredible. Such welcoming people- we love Ayomi! The trips were great and medical experience was everything I expected. One of the best accommodations in terms of hostels I have stayed in, lovely family feel.
I recently travelled to Tanzania to complete a nursing placement, alone. I did not know what to expect as I didn’t know anyone previously who had been or used The Mighty Roar. However, I had the best experience of my life. It was so much more than I expected, everyone was lovely and went above and beyond to make you feel welcome and at home. I cannot wait to go back already.
Then mighty roar made my medical elective amazing! It was stress free and they were always on hand to quickly reply to my emails and messages. The UK team were happy to give any advice no matter the time or day and the Sri Lankan team were so welcoming and were happy to sort any problems you had. It was everything I expected for how cheap the programme was.
The most amazing 4 weeks in Sri Lanka , met the best people , do as many activities as possible, especially loved the kayaking!!! Everyone was so lovely, especially staff members who were very helpful, shout out to Tdog , Ayomi and mamu !
Had a great time in Tianyar, Bali volunteering as a marine conservationist. Both the team in England and the local team made me feel welcome and supported when any problems arose. Wish I could go back!
I've recently just come back from 3 weeks in Tanzania and I absolutely loved every minute of it!! The team in the UK were always quick to respond to emails and the team in Tanzania could not do enough for you. From the drivers to the hostel staff everyone went the extra mile. I honestly wasn't ready to come home and could have stayed longer! Thank you to everyone who made my time there so memorable, I hope to go back one day or I will definitely be visiting another country and project.
I had the best 3 weeks ever!! Everyone was so welcoming and lovely!! Every day was packed full of fun activities including the weekend trips. Highly recommend!!
I have had the most amazing time with The Mighty Roar. I cannot express how welcoming and helpful Ayomi and her family have been here in Sri Lanka! All the staff go above and beyond to ensure you have the best time possible and make sure you get stuck in with many exciting opportunities and experiences. I took part in the two week travel and experience package and was shown so many brilliant sights and experiences thanks to the lovely Karu, our guide, and Santa, our driver. Karu was constantly making sure we were all having an amazing time and always looked out for us. We couldn’t have asked for a more kind and lovely person to be our guide! Thank you Karu. I can’t believe how many activities we managed to complete in such a short time, and thanks to this trip I truly got a taste for Sri Lanka and its beautiful culture. I then stayed for another two weeks, volunteering with turtles and the local kindergarten which were both so enjoyable and made you feel like you could really make a difference. I felt a part of the family, which has made it so so hard to say our goodbyes. I feel so lucky to have had this experience and so grateful to Ayomi, Charith, Karu, Santa, Lily, Thaksi, Mammu, Tharushi, Kavi and all the rest of the TMR team for giving me a trip I will never forget. Thank you!
Wow! The mighty roar are incredible. For my first solo travelling trip with sea turtle volunteering, I could not be happier with my experience staying in Akurala with Ayomi, her family, Thaksi, Lily and the staff. For the travel and experience part of my trip, which was led by Karu and our driver Santa, it couldn’t have been more worthwhile getting to see Sri Lanka’s beautiful landmarks, attractions, and their culture. If you would like to see other areas of Sri Lanka as well as taking part in volunteering, I strongly recommend the travel and experience 10 days (as people who didn’t, told me they regretted not doing so). You get so much done in the time out there, nine arches bridge in Ella, Train ride in Kandy, safari rides, surfing, waterfalls, walks/hikes and lots more. Not to mention Karu is the kindest man to accompany you on this trip who wants to ensure your always happy, smiling and safe. There isn’t one request that the team as a whole couldn’t accommodate for me, I felt prioritised and welcomed. The small things like laundry being sorted for you efficiently, to the family arranging bonfires on the beach/ meditation with monks/ karaoke at local bars are offered each week. The base accommodation in Akuralas fishing village is remote yet with a 10 minute Tuk Tuk journey (which are based at our accom) to the main town of Hikkaduawa, means when your not volunteering you have freedom to explore. However, you are 5 steps from a long beach stretch where you can spend your day, or if you’d like to enjoy a day at a hotel nearby with a pool, Tantalize is an excellent place (2 min walk). The turtle volunteering, although being in Off Peak season, was still a once in a lifetime opportunity to release baby hatchlings and monitor our hatchery where we bury the eggs when the turtles lay them on the beach. As turtle duties are in the evening 8:30 onwards you have free time in the day, as long as you do a beach clean. The mighty roar will hold a very special place in my heart as this was my first solo travelling trip and I can’t wait to come back and experience their projects all around the world! Thank you:) Loz <3
I travelled with The Mighty Roar to Bali, doing the volunteer and travel program. I had a brilliant time there for 3 weeks. Sukma was our leader on base and she was so helpful and friendly during my entire stay. We worked on base creating concrete blocks that would be dropped into the ocean to make an artificial coral reef. We would also snorkel or dive (if you had your diving qualifications) close to the base which was amazing. Because of the program I chose we also went travelling for 10 days around Bali. My favourite place we visited was the Gili islands as we swam with turtles and loads of fish.
Could not be more grateful to all the team, both in the UK and at the primate sanctuary pretoria north Africa, including Mannie the driver. My teenage daughter has gone alone, following her dreams and has had a terrible start due to the airline losing her case with all her medication, food and clothing. Mighty roar and all the team in Africa have gone above and beyond to help my daughter and keep in touch with me. Thankyou so much for taking care of my baby.
I had an amazing time in Tanzania on both the medical and childcare programs. I spent a month in total here and managed to split my time between both these projects. The amazing staff and volunteers I met along the way made this experience so unique and incredible! I would highly recommend this trip to anyone!!!
Kyle and the Bali Conservation Diving team in Bali were fantastic throughout my 3 week experience. The programme itself was run extremely well, with each dive being super fun and rewarding. Kyle in particular was fantastic, offering us lots of additional help when organising trips on our days off and overall being a great and involved program leader. I would highly recommend Bali Diving Conservation to anybody who loves diving and wants to contribute to coral reef conservation!
I had the most amazing experience in Tanzania!! The staff in the hostel and the drivers are incredible and so kind, definitely elevated the experience!! Alice works so hard to organise everything, so is an incredible woman and very kind hearted as well as her daughter Naomi. During my stay had the opportunity for many trips to amazing locations which were all organised by Alice and her team and very affordable in comparison to the external online prices!! There is a lot of activities and things to do in the days besides the volunteering so you are constantly busy and having fun! All in all it was an absolutely incredible experience and I’m so happy I’ve had the pleasure to meet everyone there!! Nikki x
As a first time traveller, The Mighty Roar was an excellent company to go through as it allowed me to feel safe and supported while also providing me with the incredible opportunity to explore the many sights of Sri Lanka. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming and Thaksi, Ayomi and Tharushika were particularly accommodating to all my needs. Overall, I throughly enjoyed my time in Sri Lanka and would definitely recommend, especially the childcare programme.

Jul 16,2024Absolutely brilliant time volunteering in South Africa. The team in SA were amazing and did everything to make us feel welcome (all my love to Nicky and Justin), the accommodation was comfortable and had everything we needed, days on the reserve were full of things to do and the work never felt monotonous due to the location and friendship with other volunteers. The community projects felt fulfilling and I feel my time there was valuable and well used. In terms of booking, the process was simple and easy to understand. The volunteer handbook had everything I needed to know about the location, what to pack, and what would be expected of me while there. There was no issue with my preferred name being different to my legal name (I am transgender and have yet to legally change my name), and I felt the instructions for what to provide in terms of documents and information were clear and well laid out. All in all, I am very happy with my experience through TMR and will definitely be going through them again should I take another trip like this!
