Three of us visited The Mighty Roar for our medical elective June-July 2024. We had the most amazing experience for a very good price. The staff (particularly Ayomi, Thaksi and Lilly) were exceptional. They were extremely accommodating and kind during our entire 4 week stay, always ensuring we had everything we needed. The medical programme was a real eye opener. There are language barriers however our observational role meant we were able to see the significant difference between UK hospital practices, and those in Sri Lanka. I definitely recommend to those hoping to do their medical elective. To everyone at TMR, thank you for making our stay one to remember. We will never forget you <3

I completed my medical elective with the MightyRoar team in Sri Lanka and honestly had the most amazing time. Ayomi and Charith and their extended family were so welcoming and lovely! They made it feel like a home away from home and honestly cared for you like you were their extended family. I can’t thank them enough!

My time in Sri Lanka was amazing. I had the chance to meet lovely people, such as Ayomi and her family/team, who cared for me during my stay in Akurala, making me feel part of them. During my travel experience, Karu and Santa have been fantastic tour guides, available for everything the group needed. I truly recommend this experience to everybody.

I completed a 3-week teaching programme in Ghana, and it was an amazing experience. The people in Busua are incredibly welcoming and friendly, making me feel at home from the moment I arrived. Dinah and the rest of the local team were outstanding—their friendliness and support were exceptional, always ready to assist with any issues that arose. The programme was one of the best experiences I’ve had. I wish I could have stayed longer. I would definitely recommend this programme. It allowed me to experience a different culture and engage in meaningful and rewarding work.

I done 2 weeks volunteering with turtles in Sri Lanka and it was an amazing experience, the staff are truly what makes it special, I was lucky enough to be staying inside one of the family’s house and they where nothing but kind to me, they always aim to help you if you have any issues and are just all around good people, as for the program it was very ethical and an amazing experience to see baby turtles hatch, the area is also Lovley with their being hotels with Pools and food spots not too far, the food in the accommodation was Lovley and we even got ice cream after each meal. They try their best to put on events and activity's for us such as kite flying, bonfires and a karaoke night (which was a disaster so don’t think that’ll happen again) as an 18 year old solo female I always felt safe, the beds were also comfy which always helps! I would do it again 100%

Wow what an experience I had for my elective medical placement! TMR were very efficient with the booking process, the My Trip portal was easy to use and guided you through what was needed and by when. Chris was super responsive and answered our many questions in a timely manner. Once in Sri Lanka the accommodation was what we expected, food was reliable and tasty although perhaps a little repetitive at times. The planned excursions to the jungle, village walk, Tsumani museum and temple very welcomed and organised- so lovely to see some of the main attractions. The medical exposure for midwifery was challenging at times due to a misunderstanding of who should be prioritised. Nursing officers in Sri Lanka are the same as midwives in the UK, due to this nursing students often got placed in areas that midwifery students request. That being said when our concerns were raise Ayomi made every effort to give us the exposure that was required and worked so hard accommodating many requests. The experience in practice was very interesting and the herbal clinic/ hospital was one of my favourite. I’m invested now to explore this in more detail. Sri Lanka is a gorgeous country with the most beautiful people. A huge thank you to Ayomi and the rest of the team for making us feel so welcome and safe within their home, I have had the most wonderful time and would highly recommend this to other medical students. Sri Lanka will forever hold a special place in my heart I cannot wait to return and share this beautiful place with my family xx

The support from Winyoo was brilliant throughout the trip and we made lovely friends with the volunteers. I particularly enjoyed the trip to Chang Mai and Naan and was a lovely way to settle in to Thailand. The teaching was good and we enjoyed working with the kids

I had the most incredible experience when volunteering with the mighty roar for 5 weeks in Tanzania. Tanzania is so beautiful and everyone is so friendly and lovely. The staff were beyond amazing and deserve so much recognition at the Comfy Stay. This opportunity allowed me to experience life and culture in Tanzania and I would absolutely love to come back again. I would recommend. I wished I could have stayed for longer!

Had a great time in Tanzania. The staff were very friendly and helpful at the hotel. Very interesting at the hospital, and learnt about what their problems were, first hand. The massai village is a great experience, and the people I met. I thoroughly enjoyed my whole experience and cannot complain about anything

A truly unique experience. The management and information prior to the trip was a bit lacking and vague/ incorrect respectively and the presence of a leader at the site was missing. However, that being said, the RA's at the project were outstanding. They showed a great passion for the environment we were working in, a care for the people around them and a really strong relationship with the locals who evidently love what they and the project do! I would 100% recommend for a unique experience. There was electricity, you don't get much signal, you don't need jeans, the food is not what they say it is (it is very traditional Costa Rican cuisine - I loved it!) and the bugs aren't that bad if you manage it well! Take the handbook and guidance with a pinch of salt and be prepared for a bit of chaos when you first arrive but it soon calms down and you settle right in! One for TMR - too much pressure is put on the RA's in terms of people management and there is very little by the way of H&S procedures so safety is in your hands!

Great experinace diving for conservation. Your gonna meet a random group of people. Some you'll really like some you won't but that's life. But the diving is a definite enjoyment and experinace.

My experience with the Mighty Roar was amazing! This was my first time travelling with a volunteer organisation and I would definitely do it again. They gave me a lot of information and support, so I could be totally prepared. You can easily ask questions and get in touch with people who have been already. They are also really flexible with booking extras and changing things. I feel like everything was super well organized!

I’ve had the time of my life volunteering in Sri Lanka throughout June. I took part in the medical programme which was very well organised. The mighty roar were available from the moment I applied to answer any questions I had, this gave me a lot of confidence as this experience was something I was nervous about. The accommodation which was clean, safe and had all necessary facilities and amenities. The house was in the perfect location on the beachfront and it was easy to find links to nearby shops, bars and restaurants. I volunteered in a very busy period, there were around 60 volunteers living in the accommodation which made it very easy to make friends- the hill country weekend trip was a great way to consolidate these friendships. I definitely recommend The Mighty Roar Sri Lanka and hope that future volunteers have as positive an experience as I have had. A big thank you to Ayomi and the rest of the staff for welcoming me into her home with such care and kindness.

Overall my experience of traveling to Sri Lanka with The Mighty Roar has been great. The contact we had with the team before traveling was amazing and they made sure we were equipped with all the relevant information regarding visas, what to pack, and what to expect whilst we were in Sri Lanka, ect. The accommodation was clean, with working air on (which was a life saver), and the staff were always friendly and happy to help. The accommodation felt very homely and we always felt safe staying there. I would like to send a special shout out to Lily, who works for TMR in Sri Lanka. She was always so friendly and greeted us with a massive smile and always made sure we were happy, she really did make our time there all the more special and we will miss her lots! The food was nice, and although it can be quite repetitive at times, I found it was always tasty! Having a fridge there for us to store our own food made it even more convenient if you do not fancy the food provided as you can easily store your own food. My only criticism of TMR is that the hospital placements did not seem to be organised efficiently, and there was a lot of mix ups between nursing and midwifery students and the areas they should be placed in. I do appreciate that I went at a very busy time and TMR was at full capacity, and with other volunteer students in hospital at the same time, it can be a tricky puzzle to piece together. However, with booking this plenty of months in advance, I would have liked the hospital placements to be a little bit better organised.

Great experience, I did the turtle conservation program in Akurala and travel experience across the country, and everyone was so friendly and helpful. Sri Lankan people are the warmest and kindest! Big shout out goes to Karu, our travel guide who went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time and were satisfied of everything, if he wasn't for him we wouldn't have enjoyed as much. Thank you so much for everything Karu, til next time!
