Had been with Tonik for a year, paid monthly direct debits and we have a smart metre providing readings every day. End date of contract was October 6th 2020 which we received a final bill of £170 which we paid after a phone call confirming cancelling our account and triple checking there was no remaining balance. All switched over to our new provider by October 9th 2020. Tonik cease trading October 10th 2020 and entered administration on October 12th 2020. Received a letter through the door in the last week demanding payment for our final bill of £571. The letter isn’t even headed and doesn’t even have a contact number or address. Email address on the letter is unresponsive and I have emailed several times. It is obvious they are trying to recoup losses and I won’t fall victim to being stolen from.

Having been with tonik energy when they went into receivership I am left significantly out of pocket. The day before going into receivership they took an additional £385 from my direct debit when I was £603 in credit. I now have a final bill from the receivers of £469.12 with now evidence of a final reading. The transfer to Scottish power is just as bad. Every time I try to call Scottish Power I wait 20 to 30mins on the phone only to be cut off. This is an absolute shambles. The only light at the end of the tunnel is People’s Energy have been extremely helpful and I’ve successfully moved my gas to their service and hope within weeks for my electricity will be there as well. My complaint raised Ofgem appears to be going nowhere as tonik energy are in receivership. I can only conclude from all off this that the directors of tonik energy acted fraudulently and have lined their pockets at the cost of their customers. As for Scottish energy they are an absolute shambles which is where they were 15 years ago when my wife used them.

We moved into a property and inherited tonik who had wrong readings. We supplied everything they requested and they continued to get our bill wrong. Just before they ceased trading we received a bill and paid. Again we supplied readings to the new supplier and paid the bill thinking great end of saga with tonik. We’ve now today received a letter demanding more money from tonik!!!!

Over the years i'd been with Tonik their billing was all over the place, they failed to produce a bill for me between Dec 2019 and Aug 2020 when i left them. They failed to give me a final bill but are now asking for over £300 7 months on.

Company went bust, fair enough, switched to Scottish Power. Kept paying until I moved house. Settled all bills with Scottish Power already. THEN BOOM, today, out of no where, came a letter asking me to pay £137.12???? Where does this number come from? Are you that desperate?

I’m in same boat as others: stuck in limbo not knowing what’s happened to my Tonik balance & having Scottish power upping my DD without providing any closing/opening statement from the 2 companies. Awaiting response to complaint but just got cut off today after holding for ages (after a 3 hour call back!)

Tonik had a great online platform and were fine for a while, until they started billing us huge amounts (£400+ pounds) every few months. I provided regular readings each month and the amounts were ontop of the direct debit we had set up that comfortably covered our usage. I never got a reply when I queried this via email so braved calling them. Bad decision. I got a chap who sounded like he was in the pub who didn't seem to comprehend that the amount we were being billed was overall equivalent to well heating a 3 bed house rather than modestly heating 1 bed flat, nor did seem to care and was even laughing and messing around while he was on my call. It was honestly the worst customer service I have experienced in many years. The issue was not resolved though we thankfully moved to a new house and are now supplied with Green Energy, whom I can't fault. No explanation was ever given to the huge amounts though I paid them as I just didn't have the emotional energy or time to invest in arguing with them about it. Tonik started off so well but something was badly wrong there with the billing. Glad to be free of them to be honest.

Shocking customer service. No idea what they are doing. And don’t compensate you when they’ve caused you to phone them for their errors!!

So glad that I had read the bad reviews on Trustpilot and realised that I needed to leave Tonik immediately. Just managed to get away before they went bust. They even increased my direct debit before I left even though I was well in credit. I cancelled my direct debit as soon as I moved suppliers and in the end I owed them so I was able to leave with no problems.

I've added my 1 star review to make up for the ridiculous 5 star reviews that have been posted since Tonik went bust! How can that be when no one has access to any accounts or contact with the customer? Trustpilot appear to not be doing their due diligence! I had no issues with Tonik until a month before they went bust. For some reason they upped my DD from £70 to £100 and when I checked my account I was £50 in credit but had been double billed for the last two month (each month had two invoices exactly the same). At the time we weren't in the country so made a note to investigate on our return. Next thing I know they've ceased trading (is ceased trading different to going bust?). I have no access to my account details and unable to complain or start a case with Ofgem as the company no longer exists. I believe I should be around £150/200 in credit with Tonik but don't expect it back. Scottish Power say they will honor any credit balance I had with Tonik but how do I know what it was as have no access to my account and always dealt with everything online with no paper copies. I immediately cancelled the DD and have started a move to EDF, although a month later it seems to be being held up by Scottish Power who's tariff is way too expensive. I didn't choose to go with Scottish Power but the longer they take to start my change the longer I have to pay it! As usual its the customers who suffer when things go wrong with no recourse! I imagine Tonik Directors all knew what was happening and have feathered their nest and Ofgem will do nothing about it!

This is the second time I've written. I am not a Tonik customer and never have been. Recently we have had 2 bills for £171 sent from Tonik telling us to transfer the money to a bank account or pay online. The letters/bills sent are unsigned with no administrative address on them. The only address given is on the rear of the envelope: PO Box 61278, London N17 1DS. In my case the letters/bills was sent to my home address bearing the name 'joe bloggs' - which isn't my name. It took British Gas 6 months to retrieve our account which Tonik 'acquired' and British Gas also sent us an updated 6 month bill, which we paid. We won't be paying anything to Tonik, come what may. The whole thing seems to have been a scam and fraud from the outset. I would advise anyone who has had a bill from Tonik not to pay. I don't see Tonik taking any sort of legal action to try and recover money which didn't belong to them in the first place. if you have Scottish Power involved don't bother trying to phone them. Visit their website and use the contact form: scottishpower (couk)/contact-us The orginal review I posted three months ago is below: ................................................................................ June 2020 we received a letter from British Gas saying 'Sorry you are leaving us.' That was the first we'd heard about it - and we hadn't switched suppliers. British Gas said they would look into it.. Five months later we received a phone call from British Gas who were unable to sort the matter out .. and could we phone this number and speak to Tonik, who were our new supplier .. We'd never heard of Tonik and certainly hadn't switched away from British Gas. How we ended up as a Tonik 'customer' we have no idea. The same day we found out that Tonik had folded and we were now a Scottish Power customer. So we phoned Scottish Power to ask please switch our account back to British Gas ... and were given a phone number to call .. .. which turned out to be an answerphone. Please leave your name after the beep and we will call you back.. beeeep ... Somebody DID call back ... at least we received an automated message telling us that as the building had been evacuated they could not deal with our complaint .. wherever and whoever the call originated from. We have no idea! The good news is that British Gas haven't sent us a bill for five months because we are not their customer, despite having been with them for 40 years. We never were a Tonik or Scottish Power customer and as we've never 'bought' anything from either of those companies, am I right in thinking that we are now entitled to free gas and electricity forever? How the hell did we end up being unknowingly transferred from British gas to Tonik?

In limbo I would not maintain DD with them rather settle the final bill when they present it.I had DD due on 16th Oct and they attempted to take monthly payment out of the account although all the account were traansferred to Scottishpower on 10Th Oct.I preempted this and had cancelled the DD earlier reading their bad reviews. If you have open DD they can still take money out of it. I would not go by the advice scottishpower at this moment as it seems they are delaying transfer too. As soon as the account transfers I will close account with scottishpower too as their tariff seems much higher by market standard.

Tonik never did respond to my emails or resolve my complaint. Having competitive rates was about the only good thing I experienced with them, but it definitely was not worth the hassle. Not sure about the transfer to Scottish Power yet. Been with them since early October and they still haven't confirmed what tariff I'm on, which I would have expected to be one of the first things communicated to us. I'm also waiting to find out what Tonik has told them my balance is. Scottish Power have asked me not to cancel my Direct Debit with Tonik. It's due in a couple of days so I just hope that no further money is taken by Tonik. I'm trying to keep an open mind on Scottish Power, but their trust pilot reviews are not very comforting.

Dreadful.Closed account at the start of August with £170 credit and their final account on the 6 October had taken £356 out of my account. Checking their final account they had upped the meter readings,in one case by 900 units despite having final readings agreed with new provider.I have photos of the meter readings. This fraud! The police should investigate this and the directors struck off.

Sorry they have gone. Never had any issues. If I'd over paid 1 year my Bill's were reduced following year in fact I've only paid £42 a month has and electric for the last 8 month which was due to jump to £72 in november. I think all these negative reviews are from people from the same family!!!!!! shame . Dreading the switch to scottish power
