Sep 06,2024I will start by saying that overall my experience of customer service nowadays is one of disappointment with companies banging on about customer service but when it comes down to it the experience was awful. However my dealings with David and Amber at Baker Ashley were really exceptional. Several sales on my house did not work out but we kept at it and finally got there. I could call them and ask daft questions anytime during the day and always got a courteous, informative answer, they always had time for me. Can't recommend them enough.

Sep 06,2024Baker Ashley are the proven experts when it comes to conveyancing. I say this because I have gone through the process of buying and selling 2 houses through them and both times they have been the most efficient, organised and fastest in the chain. Bear in mind the other solicitors were local and I took the risk using a company over a hundred miles away. It turns out there was no risk at all. They made the whole process easy. When there were hiccups in the chain (caused by other parties) they were the calm and compassionate solicitor who held my hand throughout the process while the other parties were scrambling around. I won’t use anyone else it will always be Baker Ashley.

Sep 05,2024We used Baker Ashley for the purchase of our flat a year ago so decided to use them again for the sale of it and purchase of our house as we knew they would still have all of the leasehold info, etc. Lisa and Sue were in charge of our case and they were very knowledgable and helped us to understand everything, they also chased up the rest of the chain whenever we asked. Super friendly people who got things done when they needed to be!

Our solicitor, Sarah, and her team were, from the very start was efficient, communicative and completed all the tasks in the given timescales. We completed the sale of the house on the exact date we wanted. We can thoroughly recommend Baker Ashely to anyone needing conveyancing work. We found them to be efficient about getting tasks completed, communicative about what they were doing and polite and helpful whenever we needed questions answered.

Aug 13,2024I appointed this firm on the reviews. Disappointing service. I had a small flat to buy, I was a cash buyer so no mortgage, no difficult lease, no sitting tenant, no searches needed as I owned another property in the same building and did not see the need. everything was ready to go; this couldn't have been simpler. Appointed on 18 March – and it took over 3 months to get to completion. 14 weeks… WHY? So much faffing around. When I asked what was holding things up, I was told that this or that hadn’t been done. Some things were down to me, but if I didn’t know that they were waiting for something, I couldn’t do anything about it. Getting real progress reports was hard work. When the main conveyancer was on holiday, I was assured that this would not impinge on progress. So why when she returned, did her assistant say… Now Debi is back, she will deal with it. Completion was late June. I should have had tenants in there for at least 6 weeks, so they lost me a lot of money. I will not be using them again for my next sale or purchase.

Sep 28,2024A little late with this review however I'm keen to share my experience however belatedly. On the price comparison sites for conveyancing services (where we found them), Baker Ashley quote £20 for 'ID checks'. Once you sign up and progress further, the actual charge jumps to £50 unless you have a set of ID already certified to the required standard. Most residential conveyancing customers will not have these documents lying around and will be required to use their 'video call' service to certify their ID. It would therefore have been more transparent to have quoted the full £50 on the price comparison sites (as this is the fee that will apply to the vast majority of conveyancing customers) and offer a discount to £20 where the customers already have ID docs to the required standard. While a difference of £30 may seem minor in the context of a house purchase, there was every reason to believe something similar and more substantial would recur further down the line. In particular, the main item on the fee breakdown ('leasehold legal fee') was ‘discounted’ significantly, presumably to make it competitive on the price comparison sites. Given their approach with the ID checks (and the shameless way they defended them, see below) I had a reasonable suspicion that this 'discount' would suddenly become unavailable for some obscure reason, no doubt when it was far too late to switch providers without risking the transaction falling through. When I complained about the cost for ID checks, I received a predictably disingenuous reply, including claims that: • ID checks are important and required by law (I didn’t claim otherwise, and that was obviously not my complaint). • The full cost was apparent from the outset (it wasn’t, per the above). • Most of their customers don’t need their full ID check service (completely implausible and with no evidence offered) • They’d provided ‘free’ alternatives to their service (all massively impractical and not therefore free). I note that there are other reviews on this site complaining about the same thing; Baker Ashley’s approach is to state that the complainant ‘was not a client’, as if that somehow invalidates the complaint. No doubt they will do the same here. UPDATE 1/10/24 - BA have predicably responded with an irrelevant and disingenous statement that somehow fails to understand or address any of the points raised.
