This company is incredibly disappointing. Following my financial advisor’s recommendation, I applied for a $150K HELOC. As a stay-at-home father (my wife passed away), I rely on life insurance proceeds for income. I explained my situation to their advisor, provided all the necessary information, and was told we could proceed. The next day, a sales manager named Daniel called, rudely questioning why I wasn’t moving the loan along. I had completed every step as outlined on their portal, but they rejected some documents. When I spoke with Helen, a loan coordinator, she said I uploaded the wrong files. I pointed out that I followed their website’s instructions and explained that some documents kept disappearing from the portal. She didn’t seem to care about the technical issues I was facing. After re-uploading everything, I received confirmation that the title search and credit check were moving forward. Then, despite having completed all tasks, I got an email saying they wouldn’t approve the $150K line because my son’s SSA benefits only last for three years. I had already provided proof of my financials, showing I had four times the line amount in one account, a near-800 credit score, and only $30K left on my mortgage. I even suggested reducing the line to align with my monthly draw amounts. Instead, they came back offering just $50K. They had all the necessary information from the start to make this decision. In my opinion, they’re neither upfront nor knowledgeable, and I wouldn’t trust them. It feels like a bait-and-switch: promise $150K, then offer only $50K. I pulled my application and would recommend others look elsewhere. I’m more frustrated by the time I wasted with them.
Everyone we dealt with at Better was top-notch. I appreciate the constant communication, the ease of using the portal to submit documents, and the task function that let me know exactly what was needed from me. From start to finish it was obvious that the representatives were knowledgeable, responsible, and working to make the process as easy as possible for us. After dealing with a more traditional bank for my last two homes, Better was a breath of fresh air.
Documentation was very easy to submit and I was kept up to date on the status of my loan the entire time. My loan officer was fantastic!
Better was the only Lender that approve my 2nd home equity line of credit, very grateful for the hard working staff thank you
The loan consultants are not forth coming and lack accountability and follow-through. The "soft" Pre-Approval is not a definite approval and contingent upon an actual overview by underwriting before you can truly get a confirmed approval. The loan agents will waste your time and your realtors if you don't ask the right questions. You're better off doing business with your local banking institution and seeing a loan agent face-to-face.

Everything was online and rapid. A few glitches because our coordicator took vacation and the person to take over did not have direct access to the feed.

This closing was the easiest by far that I’ve experienced. The Better team was amazing and always on top of everything; it seemed like they were working around the clock to get me to closing as soon as possible! I was a little leery about doing this whole thing online, but their system is super-simple to navigate and provide what they are asking for. Plus, I received near-immediate feedback on just about everything. Would definitely recommend and personally use again next time.

Better used to be better. Better used to be great, but their service quality has noticeably declined. I worked with them for a refinance in 2021, and the experience was smooth, but recently, it seems like they've let their standards slip. It’s unclear if they’re committed to maintaining the high-quality service they once offered.
Staff was well trained and always helpful, courteous and friendly.
