Dec 01,2024Great, Scott was very helpful, communicative, and did an incredibly thorough reading. I was initially concerned about some condensation mould on the ceiling of a flat I am hoping to purchase. Scott and his report put me at ease, and advised me about remedies to the situation.

Nov 18,2024I found Jonathan at Damp Detectives while researching solutions for a severe damp problem we had in our ground floor Victorian flat, which was developing mould on the walls and ceilings to the point that it was becoming uninhabitable. I am very grateful that I found him and for the excellent work he carried out. We received much cheaper quotes from damp-proofing contractor companies, but I know for a fact that we saved a lot of money by choosing Damp Detectives, as the work we needed to do to rectify the problems was much cheaper because we were able to identify the scope of work and price it without being led by the contractor doing the report. Jonathan conducted a full survey using thermal imaging and moisture detection equipment and provided us with an extensive, detailed report that broke down the causes and remedies along with helpful feedback and suggestions. His work was punctual, professional, and timely. If you have a damp problem, he is your man—look no further; I highly recommend him.

Nov 15,2024I have some understanding of how and when dampness, mould etc occur, but it was good to have an independent surveyor carry out a variety of tests to identify real and potential threats to use the use of the basement areas in our property. We are in Torquay and the surveyor who did the work was Johnathan Young who is local to us

Nov 14,2024We had a survey done after some concerns came up on our homebuyers survey. I’m really glad we did as it’s completely put out minds at ease. Scott was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to talk us through the report after sending it over and answered all of our questions. He pointed out the main areas that will need to be remedied, along with things to monitor in the future. It was really refreshing to have an independent view that can be trusted and not have to worry about being sold expensive remedies that we don’t actually need. Would highly recommend.

Very thorough in his approach, identified the issue, where the water was coming from and how to fix it. Because they are independent and do not recommend other companies to carry out the work, I was assured that I was given facts without any exaggeration or drama. The service was excellent and I can’t recommend Jonathan enough. I live in the Torbay area.

Oct 10,2024A really positive experience after years of recurring damp problems. I contacted Damp Detectives after having a (chemical) damp proof course fail, and told subsequently that I needed a new chemical DPC. Nigel from Damp Detetectives completed a comprehensive (damp) survey of each room in my house, taking readings and explaining to me the likely origins of the damp. This included learning that my house's original blue slate damp proof course is in fact perfectly intact and that my main damp issues could be resolved simply (and inexpensively) with suitable drainage around the base of my property. Nigel's survey included a host of other recommendations, involving similarly inexpensive solutions to other spots of damp around the house. This was precisely the independent, impartial damp assessment I'd hoped for. Wish I'd found these guys sooner. Highly recommended.

Oct 08,2024We had a damp survey carried out by Darren and we requested special attention towards a potentially problematic area of the floor. This inspection was on a property that we are in the process of buying and has been vacant for some time. Darren carried out a full inspection of the property and highlighted all of the areas that require attention. He provided a lot of useful advice on how to reduce existing and potential future damp and the most likely causes. He was extremely knowledgeable and gave very detailed explanations on what to look out for and how best to improve the ventilation throughout the whole house. He answered all of my questions (there were many, sorry Darren) and took the time to ensure I understood the complicated answers. We will be moving forward with the purchase and will keep Darren in mind to come back and check the areas we discussed have improved once the house has been "lived in" for a while. We definitely recommend Darren, both for his attitude/politeness and his technical knowledge and ability. Thanks Darren.

Sep 24,2024Thomas is incredibly helpful. His survey identified the water ingress in my conservatory a few months ago and I was very happy with his service. I contacted him again last week due to black mould starting to appear in my rental property. He offered me two survey options (data logging to see if lifestyle choices could be causing condensation leading to mould and a full damp survey). When I queried the detail of data logging he took time to explain what this involves and kindly sent me a sample report. He readily took the time to answer my emailed questions. In the end, thanks to his help and further research online, I have decided it is very likely to be a ventilation and lifestyle issue and so will not be going ahead with a survey after all at this stage. If the measures I am putting in place fail to resolve the issue I will have no hesitation at all in going back to Thomas and appointing him to do the necessary survey. I thank him for his time given so willingly in providing information and thank him again for identifying the sources of the water ingress in my conservatory a few months ago. I recommend him wholeheartedly.

Dec 03,2024Scott from Damp Detectives came to do my damp survey, he was very thorough and professional, floorboards up, the use off a device where he could see what was going on beneath the boards he then inspected the guttering . When Scott had completed the survey he sat me down and told me what he had found, he then went on to set me a plan to follow, to rectify the problem. He reassured me that the DPC was intact and did not need to be treated, as I had been told previously by a damp surveyor who was not an independent surveyor. I was so grateful to Scott, and I would advise anyone to use him.
