More than happy to recommend Scott at Damp Detectives - he was thorough, didn't rush and went through all the damp issues I had to explain the causes & the remedies. He put my mind at rest after I'd been stressing.
Nigel from Greater Manchester provided an excellent service, was easily contactable and undertook the survey on the next business day. Kept in contact, called me whilst in the property to offer a reassuring verbal report before the formal report and then was very quick in sending over the formal report. Very reasonably priced, and hard to find an independent damp surveyor so I cannot recommend Nigel further - it was a pleasure to instruct him.
Very quick response from Damp Detectives. Very impressed on the thorough investigation on our damp problem and advice as to the best way forward.
I was concerned as there was a damp smell in my kitchen and as it is underground, I assumed water was coming in through the walls. Jamie came out and did a thorough assessment of the whole house, testing walls and checking for potential issues. He made a number of excellent points that I hadn’t realised or thought of previously, and put my mind at rest that the house isn’t damp, it’s just the kitchen cupboard carcasses that are. This is probably as a result of misuse by a previous tenant of kitchen appliances that have caused moisture to get trapped in the wood. Jamie has given me loads of ideas for how to best solve the issue, and preventative advice so that no new issues emerge in future. I genuinely feel like it’s been worth the money to have his expert advice, and to put my mind at ease that we haven’t bought a house full of damp that would only get worse with time! Jamie was far more useful than a homebuyers survey would have been from past experience. He was friendly, polite and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend his services! Thank you :)
We were concerned about potential damp in our new property and instructed Tim to carry out a survey. He managed to make space for us within a week, called with recommendations and then sent the report within days. I liked his no nonsense appoach. It was condensation rather than damp and Tim made a series of cost effective recommendations to protect the property. I do feel like we've had more constructive and cost effective set of recommendations than we would have had through damp proofing company looking to sell us solutions.
If you're looking for an independent damp specialist in/near Liverpool then Terry from Damp Detectives is your guy! I was in the process of buying a house when my building surveyor strongly recommended I get a damp survey carried out. I found it difficult finding a truly independent damp specialist I could trust. I didn't want a building company/person who carried out the surveying AND the building work since I couldn't trust I wouldn't be sold unnecessary works. After lots of research I finally came across Terry from Damp Detectives. Terry has decades of experience and you can certainly tell. Terry was extremely thorough in his investigation and he explained in terms I could understand. He explained exactly what the issues were and how they could be resolved, even with a very general cost guestimate. His report was even more detailed and made something that seemed daunting at first seem very straightforward and do-able. Not only was he super professional but a really lovely and friendly guy. I also asked if he knew of any good builders and he laughingly replied "even if I did I wouldn't tell you. I'm completely independent." This was the icing on the cake for me. I highly recommend Terry to anyone who wants a truly independent damp specialist!
Contacted Tim through Damp Detectives and he gave me a quote over the phone and offered an appointment for a few days later. He arrived promptly on the agreed day and having been shown the areas giving me concern he proceeded to examine the whole property. on completion of his inspection we sat down and he explained his findings which he later confirmed in his report a few days later.
Tim did a full damp survey on an old Cobb cottage that I am purchasing. He was very thorough and very patient at explaining all of the issues clearly. He spoke to me several times to help me to understand the situation. He also put up with me asking lots of questions. He was honest and direct. Both his ideas and the report were very clear and I respect his knowledge and skills. I am very glad to have paid this extra money to hear his insights.
Got a couple of quotes for some damp work. I kept asking for the reason for the damp and was fobbed off with "Old House". So I asked Damp Detectives who we used before on our previous house to do a survey. They looked the house over and basically no damp needs to be done, just need to fix a downpipe. Saved thousands. Impressed with the work on previous house and even more so on this one. Please use them if you suspect any damp and they wont fob you off, they will tell you why..
Scott was quick to arrange a date. In addition, Scott was very helpful during the diagnostic procedure and gave a series of good recommendations which we are following up on.
After a RICS survey reported a damp floor with no obvious cause, I wanted a second opinion. I was wary of contractors, who have a motive to sell solutions. I am so pleased that I found Joby and his team. They went out of their way to accommodate me quickly (to help progress a house sale) and were professional throughout. They determined that the cause was nothing to worry about and didn’t try to sell me anything, and their survey was incredibly thorough. They explained the whole process to me as they did it. I recommend them highly.
Contacted my local 'Damp Detective' to enquire re booking his service. After an initial response by email saying he could help, he then ignored future contact attempts to obtain a quote and book the work in. Unreliable before he'd even started (Richard Bull). I still require the work to be carried out (Burton upon Trent area) so if anyone can help, please get in touch :-). **In response to the reply - email chain sent. Amazing he says he can’t find anything from me when he clearly has replied to me. Please review the chain sent which clearly demonstrates this. And his then eventual quote of over £1,100 for a survey and air test on a small, 2 bed, newish bungalow in the midlands.
After four visits from so called damp experts, who gave ridiculous prices for basically scraping of the damp and spaying a expensive damp liquid on it, no guarantee given I came across Dampdetectives. Paul Town gave me a firm quote, told me what would do and turned up with all the tools and technology to do it. After a good few hours testing walls, inside and out,and some interesting conversations about laundry, ventilation, air bricks ect Paul gave me verbal breakdown followed by a informative report. I followed the report and now have no damp whatsoever. Also saved thousands of pounds as another “expert “ recommended hacking off all the pebble Dash and redoing. The only downside was the length of time waiting for visit but I’m glad I waited . Good service, honest reporting and advice. 10/10. Thanks Paul Town.
What a relief to eventually find a totally independent, professional investigater who found the cause of the damp and mould problems! Richard Bull was friendly, thorough and communicative in his findings of the multiple causes and ways to address these problems. He is very open and transparent and accessible regarding follow up advice. I would thoroughly recommend to anyone before they go ahead with any remedial work.
Scott completed an independent damp survey on our property. He was professional throughout and identified where damp was present and what were our best options moving forward. It has given us advice and knowledge to employ appropriate damp contractors to rectify the problem.
I hope I am writing about the correct company because I can't find another with this name online so far... I am incredibly disappointed... The inspector was arranged by my landlord who has neglected the property I have put up with for a long time. He was very polite and helpful, so I thought. He made it clear to me I was not the cause of my mould and damp, I was spending money and massive amounts of time away from my kids dealing with the issues and had even had to start steroid cream treatment due to me spending too much time in the protective (none latex) gloves. He went through taking pictures of the gaps/holes in walls, using thermal camera and saw my recordings of my issues in many rooms and said I was doing absolutely everything I could do even though it wasn't what I should have to be doing. My issues wouldn't be caused over 8 years after being in a property they would be after my months if down to my lifestyle choices. He was confused about some areas of mould and said he had to try to and figure out what was causing some of it as it made no sense to him. So he went his way and I waited. This was the 5th of December. I have contacted him many times and I have proof and received NO RESPONSE. My landlord gave written consent to giving me a copy of this report which I told the inspector of also but insists that the same inspector has never replied to him after one phone call with him outlying the issues and what was in the report... He said the report sent to him was not accessible and he kept requesting another copy sent. It's never happened and no reply given. Now I am being told I will get screenshots of information that my landlord will find online that matches what the inspector told him on the phone. And I am expected to just accept this? I have no proof of ANYTHING my landlord said and also he told me today that it's been stated what's going on is a result of how I am acting in my home which directly opposed what this inspector told me in person. I am beyond livid and disappointed. This isn't acceptable. And even after telling the inspector about all this I am still being ignored. It's disgraceful conduct and I have been here with two young boys and years of issues. How you sleep at night is beyond me 😔
Scott from Damp Detectives gave an extremely professional and knowledgable service. I would recommend Scott if you have any damp issues to source the root of the problem.
I have had 3 injected damp proof courses over the years to try and sort out damp. And it’s still come back. I was totally at a loss how to sort it out and getting pretty stressed about it. I knew not to ask for advice from the guys selling damp proof courses any more!! But I didn’t know how to find someone who would give me independent advice at a reasonable cost. I was scared of being taken for a ride again. I checked out loads of companies and surveyors, before I finally settled on Richard from Damp Detectives. He only deals with damp, unlike other surveying companies whose surveyors deal with any kind of survey. He was transparent about his experience and qualifications. I could talk to him before I committed to using him. Whereas one other surveying company would not let me talk to the surveyor they were appointing. Eventually I decided to get Richard to report. He was very thorough, investigating the reason that water is getting into the brick work in my house and explaining the causes of condensation. He has given me a concise and useful report which lists all the actions that need to be taken. Most of which can be carried out by a builder. And nowhere does it mention the need for a new damp proof course!!!! He also picked up on a few other repairs that need doing. Very helpful advice. I now have a plan of action and can see the way ahead.
Wow an outstanding detailed Survey & Report from Thomas Chow - 5 leaks found in our new build Barratt Home. The developers are no longer dismissing us - a massive Thank You to you Thomas. From Carl & Marieke Richardson

Sep 02,2023Jonathan was amazing. Thorough investigation carried out unlike a well known company I had called out a few years ago for a damp survey. Photographic evidence and meter readings solved an ongoing problem after loads of previous work carried out. I have lost count with the amount of people I have had to investigate and he was 100% amazing.
