After washing machine failed on 29th December 2023 we visited Herbert Todd, had great help from the sales lady purchased a new machine and had it delivered installed and up and running within an hour.
I have had excellent, friendly, efficient service from all staff at Herbert Todd when I bought my new range cooker recently. JW
We bought a double oven and had it fitted 09/12/2023 by an Electrician not by Herbert Todd as it was too long a wait. When I turned the oven on for the first time the fan started making a horrible noise. This noise got worse and worse. On the 11/12/2023 my husband rang Herbert Todd and explained what had happened. They said they would exchange the oven for us. They first asked my husband to return it to them, he said he couldn’t do that. They agreed to bring a new one in place of the damaged one. We asked them if they would not charge us for the cost of fitting and removal. But they refused as there contract with us was just for supply. As we were sold a faulty oven we feel this is extremely unfair and they should have covered the costs as they sold us a faulty oven. All our White goods were from Herbert Todd. We will never buy from them again. Their customer service is non existent. We are absolutely disgusted at their service. In future we will use nationwide companies.
Herbert Todd and Son really cares about treating its customers well. First, the staff in the store were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful about choosing my stove. Then electricians came twice to my house before delivery to check and recheck the electrics after finding a defect in the wiring. And then, on the delivery day, while a gas fitter briskly dismantled the gas supply, two electricians worked very hard at the long, complex job of rewiring, which they did brilliantly, before installing the new cooker and removing the old one. I know I would not have received this level of service from an online retailer.
Writing this review on behalf of my friend and elderly neighbour who is unable to go on the Internet. She bought a new kitchen appliance from this local company, thinking a family business could be trusted but she had nothing but trouble from day one. Wrong item was delivered and couldn't be returned. Charging her extra and up selling add ons. Things such as cables that should come with the item. Expensive fees for delivery and installation and then refusing to replace/exchange unless extra fees are paid. Completely unreasonable and a rip off. Will be taking this further and seeking independent legal advice. She's been left with the wrong item and all these added charges for an appliance (wrongly advertised and not matching original description). She should be getting a replacement, exchange or her money back (full refund). Would not advise anyone to go there. Very disappointing experience.
Bought a second hand static and the TV developed a fault. Took it to Herbert Todd at Monks Cross. They analysed the fault within a day or two ( small fee). TV was uneconomic to repair. John help find another that was comparable and within our price range. Great friendly service. Thanks.
I approached them via email to install an induction hob bought elsewhere to replace an existing gas hob. This needed a new cable to be wired from the consumer unit through into the kitchen. The quote was very reasonable, and critically co-ordinated trades to get a gas engineer to remove the old gas hob at the same time the new induction hob was being installed. The email replies were prompt once they got going (albeit I had to chase initially to get a quote). The contractors were on-time, friendly, and did their job well. I will look at other services from this company as a result of such a good experience.
We bought a kitchen and all of the appliances from Herbert Todd. The service we received was excellent and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Adam was great and helped us to design the new layout of the kitchen to include everything on our wishlist and John was very helpful in sourcing us the appliances that we wanted. The kitchen was fitted by a Herbert Todd joiner and this was to a high standard. We would definitely recommend this company to anyone looking for a new kitchen. We love ours, thank you!!
We have an office in York that needed a dishwasher to be fitted. The problem was the kitchen was full of cupboards and there was no room and I'm trying to organise it all remotely. Herbert Todd & Son made everything so easy for me and organised the trades to all come in on the same day to make things easier. We now have a very happy office and a great job completed. More companies should work like this !!
I have just had the master bedroom upgraded with fitted cupboards, & the sitting room re-floored. I am really pleased with how both jobs turned out, from concept to completion. The cupboards are stunning & the quality of workmanship/fitting was excellent. I felt that my ideas were incorporated where possible, & I was included in all decisions. I also appreciated that the have relationships with other providers, for example carpets, which meant I could connect with trusted suppliers. Adam & Jason were a pleasure to work with & I am already planning the next job with them! Thank you!
Just bought a Blomberg fridge freezer from this company. I have used them before and the service is great. The unit was delivered and installed and the old one taken away. They are a good reputable company.

Called in today as I’m moving house shortly and am wanting to buy another Rangemaster Elise as I love my current one which is 900 wide but am considering a bigger one. I know the Elise comes in 900, 1000 and 1100. I called in to discuss the differences. When I came into the showroom 3 members of staff were stood at the desk discussing what they had done at the weekend . I stood at the end of the counter and was clearly seen but they continued their conversation with no acknowledgement . I said “excuse me , can I have some help please” One of the girls looked up - and if looks could kill- said it’s not my department ! I hadn’t said why I was in at that point . The girl who came to help me was clueless. Didn’t know which range I was referring to , I had to show her . When I explained why I was there and needing information as to the differences with the larger models she looked incredulous and said there was no difference they were just wider !!! I might have brushed the initial downright rudeness and indifference to one side had she rescued the situation with her knowledge and helpfulness, but neither were forth coming so I voted with my feet . Appalling couldn’t care less customer service from a York firm I was hoping to place my business with . What a shame .
We are very pleased with our new Samsung fridge/freezer from Herbert Todd. The delivery and installation team were quick, efficient and very professional.

Washer packed up on Thursday, visited Herbert Todd on Friday. Lovely staff in store very helpful and nice, got washer chosen and was told could be delivered Monday morning. Delivery staff spot on as well, really nice and helpful. I’ll only be purchasing my white goods from here in the future, fantastic local company 👍
My 5 stars are for a gentleman named Dave at your Harrogate Branch . He went beyond anyone else in your business to solve the problem I had with a ceramic Smeg hob. What a star you have working for you. Few and far between staff like him .
I went to the showroom on the off chance of buying a dishwasher. The chap who served me was superb and the prices were extremely competitive. I bought one and it was fitted in two days with the old one deposed of, great lads who came and sorted it. My friend was looking for a vacuum cleaner so I took her there. We were served by Kelly. She could not have been more brilliant. Talked us through the models and even printed out comparison machines. My friend ordered one (which Kelly found had £70 off!) and when it's in the store Kelly is going to assemble it and register it online. You cannot get service like that anywhere else.
