We moved into our property in July this year. We had numerous issues that required to be addressed. Our property manager ( Hayley ) responded to our emails and voicemails in a timely way. She did a site visit, documented each of the problems, and kept us fully informed on progress. Every issue we raised with her has been actioned. Having been living in factored properties in the West End for many years, I can honestly say that we have never experienced such professional and effective service. Thank you.

Linda Thomson has been my development manager since I moved in, a decade ago. Always very responsive, consistently on top of things, Linda doesn't mess about when it comes to getting the job done. I have faced a few major incidents over the years including flooding from the (absent) neighbour above during lockdown and communal area break ins and vandalism from youths. Linda has resolved the situation each time and given peace of mind. Linda is an absolute credit to Newton Property.

We are in a residential building housing pensioner apartments and have been with Newton for approximately 14 months after being unhappy with FirstPort’s lack of communication and high fees. Right from the first meeting, Newton personnel promised us that they had the capabilities to look after us and would honour our Deeds of Conditions with lower management fees than we were used to. One main advantage would be that we would be managed from Newton’s Inverness office and so they would be able to contact local contractors, services and suppliers but would work with our manager to obtain the best results. In subsequent meetings we were assured that everything was being done to smooth our way to their factoring and they would sort out any transitioning problems. The problems arose after the transition when, unbeknown to us, our main Newton contacts left the company. After that, trying to get any information about anything was a trial. By the beginning of 2024 we knew we had problems, especially in accounting and getting tradesmen paid. Laura was the excellent lady in the Inverness office who was the only one who would try to help us. However, she was only an administrator and so was totally outvoted by anyone in the Glasgow HQ. She has now left the company and I can only hope she has found better paid employment with less stress. It took a long time to find out that our new housing ‘manager’ was in Glasgow. He didn’t seem to want to come near us nor did he communicate. He was possibly out of his depth. The company didn’t want to produce budgets and we haven’t received our last two statements on time. In fact, we are still awaiting our invoices for the period ending 31st August 2024, approximately 6 weeks ago. Ironically, when we do finally receive them they will expect payment within 7 days! Things started to come to a head after two of our committee met with the CEO and that earlier mentioned ‘manager’ who both travelled up to the Inverness office (in all this time that’s the closest they have been to our location). The discussion held related to the many problems that had arisen and the CEO went away seemingly with less respect of the ‘manager’ who had supposedly been looking after us and who finally decided that he would have to read our Deeds of Conditions when he got back. Incidentally, they would not allow our representatives to record that meeting, something that we always allow in our committee and our residents’ meetings, in order to keep a genuine record. I wonder what they were hiding? After about a month the CEO finally wrote back with answers to the list of queries that he had been given. Our committee was not happy with some of these answers and so it was agreed that the problems would not be solved without going to tribunal. Of course, Newton were informed about this before the event and were given time to respond. The response was quite alarming. Newton had decided unilaterally that they would not adhere to all the sections/paragraphs of our deeds and implied that we could take what they were giving or take ourselves off to another factor. And so this ‘change’ to our deeds was met with incredulity and Newton was informed that we were going ahead with the first tier tribunal. Finally, yesterday, Newton informed the committee’s secretary that they would factor us no longer and gave us 3 months’ notice to find another factor. Does anyone out there recommend a factor for the north of Scotland?
