Did 3 weeks of doing childcare volunteering. Really enjoyed myself and made some amazing friends that I will never forget. I would say I did expect there would be a little more to do in the day, as it was only 2 hours. But luckily enough you are opposite the beach so every afternoon it was a delight to go!! Lovely staff who are very welcoming and friendly and accommodate for lots of different problems, when I was ill I felt especially looked after. Definitely will never forget this experience and I’m so glad I did it!!
this was my third time volunteering in moshi, tanzania with the mighty roar, and yet again it was nothing short of incredible. from the second we returned to tanzania, we were again made to feel at home and welcomed as family, which they truly have become to us. i cannot recommend the mighty roar enough, the encouragement to achieve, the welcome, the kindness and continued support made my experience the best. asante sana tanzania. myself and another volunteer have fallen so in love with the country we are planning to move there next year.
TMR Sri Lanka, I have just finished 4 weeks at the mighty roar and it was incredible. I got to do both the turtle and the dog program. They are very relaxed about letting you try other programs so you can find the one that suits you best. I started in turtles but then switched to dogs. I enjoyed both but loved the dogs so much. It is unbelievably rewarding and you can see the difference the program is making to the dogs lives. The street dogs are all so sweet and friendly towards humans. Making sure they were safe and fed was 1 of the highlights of my trip. It is tough at times as homesickness can creep in as it’s a new environment with totally new people. Plus there is a lot of free time, which I did struggle with at the start, but after a while you learn how to fill it and there is a beach opposite the accomodation which I wasted many hours on. After 4 weeks I can confidently say it was so worth it and I loved it all. I have made friends and memories for live. The local team are so knowledgeable about their programs and they give 100% all the time to try to ensure everyone is happy. Finally, I’m so grateful to Thaksi, Charith and the whole team for all they do to support the volunteers.
Our family of 4 spent 2 weeks at Mighty Roar in Sri Lanka. First, I can’t express more how sweet and nurturing the staff was to us. Even showed us extra care when we had a day not feeling our best. They gave us nice accommodations for our family, making sure we had a larger than the standard room which was truly appreciated. We participated with the Sea Turtles on the first week. Mamu (inviting and truly an amazing person) was enthusiastic about the turtles, and showed us a lot. Fantastic to see that Mighty Roar is ethical and making a difference for the Green Turtle and Olive Ridley turtle population. Our second week was spent with the dogs. This project gave you more instant gratification (less waiting). The street dogs of Sri Lanka need much help and ~98% of the dogs were surprisingly well behaved. We joked that they were better behaved than pets back home. Thaksi (she is an amazing staff member) is very passionate about the dogs and takes extra care to make vet runs, apply meds to treat mange/fleas, and even adopting one of the street dogs for her family. The dogs are lucky to have Thaksi and the volunteers. Between the 2, hard to choose which project we enjoyed more. If I could give any constructive feedback, having more variety for the food would go over well. By week 2 we found ourselves excited to eat off premises. This is a small detail though of an overall wonderful experience. We will miss our time in Sri Lanka. It was a culturally rich country and truly a gem unknown to many Americans! I highly recommend Mighty Roar if you want to make a difference while also enjoying the country from a different angle.
I spent three weeks volunteering at a primary school in South Africa and it was the best time of my life. I made some incredible friends at the house we stayed at, and went on some amazing trips after the school day and on the weekend. We visited an elephant sanctuary, went on a safari, went zip lining, cave climbing and went to boulders beach to see the penguins. I cannot wait to book my next trip!!!
I had an amazing time on my medical elective with the mighty roar in Sri Lanka and would recommend it to anyone looking to get experience in a different medical system and learn about traditional medical practices. The environment at the accommodation is extremely welcoming and friendly and I’ve made amazing friends in such a short time! There are loads of opportunities to explore the beautiful country, relax on the beach and try great food during your stay. The staff are brilliant and have made my 6 weeks an unforgettable experience.
Myself and my friend spent 2 weeks in Moshi in Africa at the dog shelter. The accommodation was very comfortable and staff worked very hard to accommodate all your needs and receiving 3 meals per day inclusive was a great bonus. They take you wherever you want to go for free all day until 6pm which is very helpful, not knowing your surroundings. They still offer taxis after 6pm for a small fee. The only downside to the accomodation was the amount of mosquitos around. A constructive criticism here to maybe try something to combat this? We had a few water shortages and electrical issues but they resolved these pretty quickly each time. We felt very valued for our volunteer work at the dog shelter and they were all very grateful and felt that we had brought a lot of our own knowledge for them to learn from. We both have dog businesses back home so they were very grateful to learn from our experience with dogs. The dogs are all very happy animals considering the life they have been rescued from. The shelter is still at its early stages but they are trying their best to learn and expand so they can help more dogs in the future. The excursions TMR offer are wonderful. We did the Safari and Zanzibar weekend trips which were incredible! Overall we ticked off some bucket lists experiences and we are very grateful for TMR facilitating all of this for us. We will definitely be returning to help with the dogs shelter in the future. Thank you TMR for an unforgettable adventure :)
As an”older’ volunteer and a first timer I had no idea what to expect. The hostel was ok with a few minor issues of no water, power cuts, lost laundry & miscommunications. But the staff -Alice Theo & all their team were always so helpful & kind. I loved our weekend trips - safari was off the scale and Zanzibar is a must see. We volunteered to help in the dog rescue & as a new project it was just getting established. They need lots of support & volunteers to help. We donated food & equipment whilst we were there & paid for 2 dogs to be neutered. The dogs are wonderful- loving sweet & playful. Leaving was so hard - definitely fell in love with the pack & of course the puppies! The MightyRoar in Tanzania was good fun & a really memorable life experience for all the right reasons. We don’t appreciate how fortunate we are in the UK!
My time in Moshi was absolutely fantastic. From the moment I arrived, the team in Tanzania went out of their way to make me feel so welcome and supported. The medical placement at Mawenzi Hospital was excellent. All the doctors and healthcare staff were so friendly and willing to teach, allowing everyone the opportunity to gain hands on experience within their given capabilities. The highlight of my trip was without a doubt the plethora of activities organised by the staff at Comfy. During my time in Moshi we got hike to Materuni Waterfall, swim in the Chemka Hotsprings, play football with local Maasai members, and enjoy the weekly karaoke and pub quiz nights. Not only were all these events great fun, they also allowed us to meet local people and immerse ourselves in the Tanzanian way of life. A massive thank you to all the team out in Tanzania. Everyone at Comfy Stay (from the drivers to the wait staff) provided an extraordinary level of hospitality and kindness - you all made my experience so memorable. I hope to come back one day!
My experience at the mighty roar in Sri Lanka was so amazing, and I would recommend to anyone!! The turtle programme is hard work, and you do work late hours, however it is so rewarding when you get to witness the different phenomena’s of a turtle giving birth, and releasing hatchlings into the wild! And in my last week when I wanted to try out the different programmes they offered, Thaksi was so useful in helping sort this out! Staying at the mighty roar felt like you were apart of the family and was such a nice environment to be apart of. The rooms were basic and had some issues with water and WiFi, but all problems were sorted as soon as we notified the staff. With the beach across the road from the accommodation it was so easy to get around and spend unlimited time sunbathing and swimming in the sea. 3 weeks felt like the perfect length of time to be there, and also take part in an organised weekend trip. I will truly miss the experience and never forget it! Thank you so much to Charith and his family for the best time ever.
Me and my best friend Ava both did the volunteering in Kenya doing teaching at the school for 2 weeks. It was an amazing experience and we enjoyed every moment at the school with all the kids. We stayed in the host house with an amazing host family and all the other volunteers doing the same thing. We had breakfast and dinner included and the food was amazing (bearing in mind everyone had a different dietary requirement 😂). Me and Ava didn’t end up getting our clothes washed there even though you could if you wanted to at an extra cost. There were 2 rooms for volunteers, one for boys and one for girls which were right next door to each other and shared bathrooms. All the volunteers were absolutely lovely and we have made friends for life. On the first weekend we went to Zanzibar which was incredible as we both dreamed of going there but we unfortunately missed out first flight so we missed the first day with the turtles which was annoying but oh well! The guide Emanuel was amazing and the food we had there was also delicious. With the volunteers there was a mixture of solo travellers, duos and groups which was really nice as well. Id definitely recommend this trip for anyone that wants to have an eye opening experience and see how different it is to how we live at home.
The hostel staff were so hard working and friendly. We had some significant water/ power cuts but that’s life in Africa, and the team always endeavoured to fix it. Big positives: FREE laundry and FREE taxis before 6pm. Most places don’t offer this so defo made our experience easier/ cheaper. Daniel the taxi man is so warm, kind and helpful so made our journeys more fun- give that man a raise! Food was overall really good. Relatively varied, three meals per day provided 7 days a week. I was teaching and I can’t recommend Soweto Gov. school enough. Lovely grounds, friendly teachers and fun, polite, helpful kids.
Had the best time volunteering at TMR in Sri Lanka, I even extended to 4 weeks it was so good! Charith and the team and his family are all so friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anyone :)
Amazing experience volunteering in the elephant sanctuary in Thailand, met loads of new people, the transfers and communication from TMR team was great.
I’ve spent 5 weeks at TMR and had the most amazing time! Thaksi, Charith and all of the local team at TMR are so supportive and go out of their way to ensure you have the best time. I did the street dog programme and absolutely loved it and met some lovely people during my time there too! The food is decent and the accommodation is in the perfect location - just opposite the beach! Would highly recommend TMR Sri Lanka to anyone!!
I’ve spent 5 weeks at the mighty roar and loved it so much!! Felt very looked after and supported, especially when feeling sick or if you had any questions. I loved the childcare course and the accommodation and food are great. Met some really lovely people and would recommend, thank you !
Charith, Thaksi and the whole TMR team were so lovely and couldn’t do enough to help. They were able to accommodate most of our requests and were so kind. We felt really at home.
I am also immensely grateful to The Mighty Roar for organizing such an unforgettable experience. A huge thanks to Charith, Thaksi, and Mamu Uncle (our guide), as well as the rest of the team, who worked tirelessly to ensure our safety and create once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for us in Sri Lanka. From exploring vibrant markets to witnessing the warmth of the local people, every moment was truly special. It was a truly enriching experience in every aspect of life—not just for nursing, but also for understanding and immersing myself in the culture and daily lives of the Sri Lankan people. And of course, the food was absolutely amazing!
I’ve absolutely loved every second of my experience!! The TMR team are so amazing and really care that we are all looked after and having the best time we can!! They are like a proper family and welcome you with open arms!! The travel and volunteer was super cool too! Although occasionally the food can feel a little repetitive you have the option to go out in the towns and switch it up a little but I’ve made so many incredible friends and genuinely wouldn’t change a thing!!

Feb 21,2025I did the teaching programme in Sri Lanka for four weeks and loved it! The team was so kind, always going above and beyond to make sure everyone was happy and settled. The organised travel weekends were amazing, providing an easy way to see more of Sri Lanka. It was the experience of a lifetime.
