I did the medical elective in Vietnam and The Outreach team in Vietnam were amazing. Minh, Miss Tran and their team were so lovely and accommodating. The in-house cook es so lovely and her food was amazing. The medical volunteer house is basic but clean and the rooms have air con! Placement days were short but enough to learn about a new healthcare system. The team in the hospital were also accommodating to our requests about switching departments/having time in the operating theatres. On the weekends we were able to explore vietnam and have incredible experiences. Overall, it was an amazing opportunity and I’d recommend it to anyone.

The Zimbabwe IMIRE experience was above everything my daughter could have expected! A once in a life time trip which she will remember always, the staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. She did everything from feeding elephants, horse back safaris, sewing reusable period pads, building bridges, and she learnt so much about wild life preservation and herself. Could not give a million stars so gave the maximum possible!

I've just returned home from the childcare programme in Tanzania. It was such an incredible experience, I met some friends for life and had the experience of a lifetime. The children at the Masai school don't speak any English but that doesn't prevent you from bonding with them immediately. It was such a privilege to be around these kids and soak up their fascinating culture. After just two weeks I was so attached and very emotional to be leaving. An incredibly grounding experience. The staff at the hostel are incredible and made the trip. The hostel is exactly what you would expect from a youth hostel, it is very basic but is it clean and has great social areas which is the main thing. The trips were amazing, it was such a great way to experience the natural beauty of Tanzania. I did the Hot Springs, Sip and Paint, Sunset Yoga, Waterfalls and Safari. All of them were an absolute dream! I can't recommend this programme enough. A once in a lifetime experience.

We spent a week volunteering as a family at the Marine Conservation project in north Bali in August and had an amazing time. My children, aged 7, 10 and 13, were all able to participate fully and we all really enjoyed learning about the marine project, building the reef structures, and helping to deploy them right off the beach. My daughters and I also did some additional volunteering at the pre-school nearby, and we all loved helping with their English lessons and getting to know the teachers and children there. The accommodation was basic, but fine (the five of us all shared one big room, but had our own bathroom). It's totally worth it for the beachside access and stunning village location in a part of Bali that's still relatively untouched by tourism and traffic. The other volunteers (who were all in their teens / 20s) were all super friendly to us as a family and really inclusive with the kids. Staff were brilliant - welcoming, kind, and very helpful when we needed to find a doctor at one point. Also, special mention to chef Yanti - the food was a big highlight for us all and we miss her breakfast pancakes now we're back home! The experience was hugely bonding for us as a family, and we all made some wonderful friends. Would highly recommend and will be booking again.

I’m a second year nursing student and we volunteered on the medical program for our enrichment placement. It was the best three weeks of my life. All the staff were so accommodating and helping. The accommodation was basic but had everything we needed. Although we were on the medical program we also had chance to visit the childcare program. I learnt so much in the hospital and was able to work in all the different areas. We also did lots of trips including safari, Zanzibar, waterfalls and coffee making. I would recommend it to everyone! I hope to go back next year.

An amazing week for us. We volunteered for the child care in Tanzania as a family of 4, with our son (10) and daughter (13). We volunteered for a week before heading to Zanzibar which we organised independently. The accommodation was basic but the staff very helpful with local trips and activities keeping us busy in the afternoons. Although we were only there for a short time the other volunteers were extremely friendly and inspiring and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Communication between the UK and the local team could be better but otherwise the communication in the run up to the trip was really thorough.

My 15 year old son and I have just returned from a 4 week volunteering holiday in Tanzania. The communication from TMR prior to the trip was excellent and Chris put my mind at ease by answering my many questions. We were volunteering with the childcare programme but were also provided with an opportunity to visit the local primary school and local orphanage. Whilst the accommodation is basic by Western standards the staff at the Comfy Stay are an absolute delight and go above and beyond to assist you. The food is lovely and varied. The availability of trips is also great, there is always something to do. Whilst my son and I were the oldest and youngest volunteers respectively we always felt part of the group and met so many amazing people of different ages, backgrounds and ethnicities, which was wonderful. I loved meeting such a diverse group of people whose lives I wouldn't generally cross with. Most volunteers were part of the medical elective but they also got the opportunity to come along to the childcare programme. The Safari was amazing. Zanzibar was good but with hindsight I probably would have stayed longer and visited different parts of the Island. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience. My son also loved it.

From a mature traveler of 56 years young, The Mighty Roar made everything easy for me as I had to change dates & communication/information was readily available. The Costa Rica experience was absolutely fabulous. Andre, our guide was amazing, his knowledge on the environment, nature & wildlife was immense. He was always on hand if you had any queries or just wanted advice about anything. The mini tours were very exciting $65 each (paid up front to Nikki) this can be done a lot cheaper, by paying direct to the tour companies if you are on a very tight budget The zip lining & white water rafting is a must! Some of the accommodation was below par of what was promised but it didn’t deter for what we were actually there for, you will not be disappointed booking this tour. I personally would budget for $40 per day to cover food. As you need to buy breakfast, lunch and evening meal and maybe the odd mojito! Alcoholic drinks are 3500+clones & are staying in tourist areas Also on the transfer back to the airport to fly home - use an Uber which will only cost you $12 per car and do not charge for additional people, booked at hostel reception. (transfer bus is $30 plus $5 per each additional person)

Volunteered on the medical placement in Sri Lanka and had a really enriching experience. The TMR group were really welcoming, organising fun activities weekly, really working hard to ensure safety and had a real homely feel to it! The placement days were brief but provided enough time to gain a good insight into the healthcare system. I love that there were also weekly opportunities to visit an Ayurvedic clinic and learn about this traditional medicine form. Thanks TMR team for a great stay and lifelong memories

The experience was incredible and would strongly recommend it. However, the "reality info" or "bad news" of the condition of the accommodation etc. is delivered after you book and part with your money - it was acceptable and basic but I think honesty from the beginning is important. On the outward journey, I was given only one person's name and number and that they would be wearing a green t shirt. That person was not the one collecting and apparently never does, and she also didn't reply until a few hours after I was collected, so was no help at all. The field research team are not given anyone's telephone numbers and names so they cannot contact us to see where we are and if we have arrived. So all of the volunteers arriving at separate times had the same experience of spending time approaching strangers to ask if they were the one to collect them, which is fine if you're my age but not if you're a teenager. On the return leg, we had to get a bus from the villa to the airport (which was paid for by the field research team), but that was not what was sold originally - meaning we had to get a public bus and arrive at the airport many hours before departure on a delayed flight -meaning an entire day at the airport, which was a waste of time and money. It is also not necessary to buy a mighty roar t shirt. Saying all that, the experience really is incredible and if the MR can resolve some potential safety issues with transfers and a bit of transparency with POS, it is definitely worth doing.

Peeyush, Kamal and Jay all deserve so much credit for making the experience in India what it is. They are so welcoming and great company as well as making you feel super safe. The experience wouldn’t have been the same without them.

Best three weeks of my life. As a 16 year old student- the accommodation, trips and volunteering responsibilities were amazing. These things balance well with the freedom you are also granted staying with TMR in Sri Lanka. Although the accommodation isn’t a perfect 5 star resort- it provides beyond what you would expect from a youth hostel. A typical day as a turtle volunteer would be that I would get up, meet friends under the roofed social area and then explore nearby places during the day (Galle, Hikkaduwa) and being back in time either for planned activities (games, small trips) or turtle duties. Personally I found it to be a tremendous deal and fantastic for young travellers such as myself. Although it may be difficult for TMR to be responsible for under 18 solo travellers due to the freedom the program grants for solo exploration and the risks that come along side- I dually hope that TMR continues to allow 16+ Solo travellers such that they can have experiences like mine. If you are considering going, do know it is not completely perfect but it provides fantastic opportunities. Thanks a lot TMR, Jude.
