This experience has been extremely enriching and heartwarming. I decided to do 2 weeks of the childcare program in Sri Lank and it was the best decision I could have made. The program was well organized and the staff at the sight was happy to help in any situation.
I personally really enjoyed my time away in Sri Lanka. It was the perfect experience for a first time solo traveller at 17!! I definitely recommend doing one of the weekend trips to get a chance to do more touristy things but you really get a chance to live in the community for the rest of the week. The children were beyond amazing and the most lovely kids I’ve ever met. The team did their best to accommodate all 40+ volunteers there and with only a few hiccups which was to be expected. Go in with a sense of humility and remember your privilege to be there throughout and you shouldn’t have any problems. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!!
Ayomi and her team did a fantastic job at making us feel welcome and well looked after. I was travelling with my two daughters (17y and 15y) and we all really enjoyed the childcare volunteering activities and also the events organised by the team in the afternoon / evenings.
I had an excellent time with TMR in Sri Lanka. Everyone was so welcoming and lovely and all of the staff were very helpful. I did the childcare volunteering programme and very much enjoyed it. There were also activities every evening that I had a great time taking part in. I would really recommend coming and volunteering with TMR in Sri Lanka if you want to see beautiful sites and have lots of fun!
I had an amazing two weeks volunteering in Skala doing marine conservation. Thanks you so much to the core team and Jodie for making me feel so welcome and for making the trip as easy and enjoyable as possible! Will definitely return!
Fantastic experience and met friends for life - very well organised
Had a great time in Sri Lanka courtesy of the Mighty Roar and SLWCS. This experience has been eye-opening and the experience I will never forget. The staff were all really friendly and helpful and I met some amazing people who I will no doubt keep in touch with in the future. This has been an excellent 5 weeks and I want to thank the Mighty Roar and SLWCS for making this experience truly incredible. I would highly recommend the Mighty Roar to everyone and would 100 percent do it again.
I had an amazing time volunteering in Sri Lanka on the teaching and childcare programme. Ayomi was incredibly helpful, she really welcomed us into her family and treated us wonderfully. She helped us organise transport, recommended places for us to visit and gave us general advice about life in Sri Lanka. The teachers at the school were very friendly and taught us all new dances! I would recommend this programme to anyone who is looking for an eye opening experience and wanting to make a difference in the world. I can’t to go back!
I spent 4 weeks on the marine conservation trip in Greece and had the best time. I met lots of new people from across the world and explored the island of Kefalonia with them! As for the project itself it was very well structured and I always knew what I was doing. There is also many different shifts meaning each day is different. Id 100% recommend this trip to anyone!
I spent 7 weeks total across Tanzania, Ghana + Sri Lanka on my medical elective + had the most incredible experience. Tanzania - the staff were very helpful + friendly - arranging regular afternoon trips (waterfalls, Kilimanjaro hikes, hot springs), as well as being flexible with allowing me to experience multiple different hospitals. Having a bar in the hostel was great to all socialise safely together, and German the barman was fantastic! We were given a nice amount of freedom, whilst also being supervised where necessary to feel safe. The safari weekend trip was amazing, hosted by Timo, and well worth the money! Ghana - the people of Busua are amazing + make you feel so welcome! The staff - Dinah, Sylvester, Emmanuel + everyone else - are so helpful with whatever you need to make your stay enjoyable. I loved being able to visit the Busua community clinic, as well as visit a local special needs school, attend psychiatry home visits and give a presentation in a local school about mental health. Dinah's food is also great - a perfect mixture of more Western food + traditional Ghanaian food. I really enjoyed the Cape Coast weekend trip to see more of the country, as well as surfing on the beach in Busua. Cannot emphasise enough how lovely the staff + locals all are + how much they welcome you into the community - an incredible experience. Sri Lanka - Ayomi, Thaksi + all the staff are so kind + treat you like family, the accommodation is lovely + the food is incredible. Although I didn't go on any TMR weekend trips (dates didn't align), the staff were great with helping us organise our own. I loved our time spent at the Ayuverdic clinic, and really appreciated being able to spend more time there than planned, as organised by Ayomi. The organised afternoon activities were also lots of fun (boat trips, cricket with locals), and Ayomi was brilliant for organising them according to our preferences. A brilliant way to experience Sri Lanka! Throughout all my trips I met such amazing people - both locals + other volunteers, and had such incredible experiences. Each place had amazing staff, who made my trips so memorable - a real once in a lifetime opportunity.
Such an amazing time and set up
I had an incredible time in Greece doing Turtle Conservation 🐢 with Wildlife Sense through The Mighty Roar website. I was based in Lixouri, a small town with good variety of bars, resteraunts and shops- i can honestly say I've never felt so safe in another country before. We had morning shifts that ended before 11 and shifts that started again at 6 or 8 which meant every day we had so much free time to get to know the local beaches and areas. Shifts were really interesting - just know that you might not always see turtles on your shifts. Inventories were incredible as the staff would dig up nests and we'd help hatchlings to the sea - these were the most amazing experiences! We had two days off a week. TMR were easy to book through and had great communication. Not sure you need everything on the packing list- just bring lots of shorts, including cycling shorts, and bikinis/trunks and you'll be sorted for your time there!
I had an amazing time in Sri lanka volunteering in the mental health clinic. Ayomi, Thaksi and the rest of the family were very accommodating for us and the extra activities that were put on ensured we experienced as much of the local culture as possible. I really enjoyed the hill county and Maldives weekend trips which were both very good value for money. The only recommendation I would make is places to put suitcases in the bedrooms, I was in a room of 6 which was a very small room with no where to store large suitcases. This made it hard when getting up early in the morning trying not to wake the other roommates up as there was a lot of stuff on the floor. Other than this I would recommend tmr to anyone looking to volunteer abroad for a good price :)
I spent 2 weeks in north Bali, doing the childcare and teaching and it was honestly one of the best things I have ever done. The children are wonderful to teach and the accommodation and food is really good too. Plus being right on the beach means you have soooo much time in the sea :) Not only the volunteering but the weekend trips were amazing, I did the explore Bali and the Gili Islands, can’t recommend enough. Although what I would say is if you go, stay for at least 3/4 weeks because two just wasn’t enough!!!
An amazing trip, great organisation through the company and I cannot praise Nakavango enough for making my time so perfect.
Amazing experience! I had the most amazing time I would recommend it to anyone!
This was my first trip travelling abroad independently, and the Mighty Roar made this a hugely positive experience. The family-centred atmosphere of the volunteer accommodation felt authentic and supportive. The sea turtle programme was incredible - we did a sea turtle release independently when a nest hatched during our shift - staff members found a good balance between outlining tasks and letting the volunteers fully immerse themselves in their work. However, perhaps greater supervision would have been beneficial for the beach cleaning - although it was nice to have the flexibility with this, it was clear some volunteers were neglecting this aspect of their work, which was a shame. Having organised beach cleans in groups, although not as convenient timing wise, may be prudent to improve the effectiveness of the beach cleans and also enhance safety - unfortunately, a friend and I were followed by an older man who was drinking with his friends down the beach during our beach clean, which was quite uncomfortable. The travelling experience with The Mighty Roar was the highlight of my trip and worth every penny. Going around the country in an organised group, with meals, accommodation and activities organised was fantastic - I really felt I got my money's worth. It would've been nice to have had more detail on the itinerary though, as this was moved about a bit in practice and meant I didn't have the most suitable footwear for some activities (advice on footwear itself would've in itself been very beneficial). Overall, this was a great first independent trip abroad, and one I would certainly recommend.
I had a fantastic time at Amakhala, a few things could be improved though. I think more organisation of the activities as when I attended the house was full and going to do things like road maintenance there was not enough equipment for everyone to get stuck in. More emphasis on the load shedding should be made clear before going, this took some getting Used to, when making Food for the children in the township, I feel the meals could be better and more nutritious. Nicky was brilliant and I think she does an amazing job with what she has available to her, all the other staff were amazing and friendly as well, going on game drives they really knew there stuff
Amazing time with Emmanuel and the Mighty Roar in tanzania!! Felt very at home and able to make an impact. Thank you

Aug 28,2023Walking into Sri Lanka was like walking into an extended family - everyone made me feel so welcome. If you fully emerse yourself into the volunteering and embrace the culture then you will leave with life long friends and experiences and memories to last a life time.......remind yourself that it is a third world country so at times it is rough and ready and perhaps things are not done the way we are used to but that is part of the experience of travelling. I have done Mighty Roar projects twice now in different locations around the world and have no doubt that I will go in for a third!
