I have used this butchers for a long time, but over the last few months the service and quality have dropped SEVERELY. Absolutely abysmal communication. Even to the point my calls were being repeatedly declined because I dared to inquire about the status my order, being as it was late by A WEEK! Driver turned up and said he was told to deliver to us 5 minutes before we close. Even after our kitchen had closed for the day. And the quality of the product is awful. The back and streaky bacon is so thin that you can see through it and it falls apart when you pick it up. Disgustingly carved, you can barely tell the difference between the back and streaky bacon. A large number of times the order has been wrong. Either including more or less than what we ordered, and even if it’s less, they still charge you for what you asked for! No apology, no remorse. The staff are rude, unpleasant and unhelpful. Needless to say we won’t be using them again, well done guys… customer lost successfully!
Bought 4 different joints. Beef smelt a bit off and was very fatty/chewy. Leg if lamb was tough as old boots.... even after slow cooking. Niw wondering what the gammon will be like or the loin of pork. Will not be buying from them again.
I purchased 3 kg of minced beef, specifically asked if the mince contained any offal. I was informed that no way, that was old school, yet on inspection it was evident that the mince was mixed with offal. I will not be returning
We ordered a 8.5 kg turkey for our family New Year celebration, to arrive on 30th December. It was delivered on time, and eaten on 31st. All the family voted it one of the best turkeys they had ever tasted, moist, succulent, full of flavour, and very good value for money. Altogether excellent, Butcher of Brogdale, thank you!
Well, not sure about the poor reviews, our quality and experience has been first class. We recently ordered a one bone côte de boeuf - 1Kg for £10, and cooked it rare to check our new wireless meat thermometer, it was delicious with chips and bearnaise. The. Boned and rolled lamb leg was also good, about to use some remnants for curry puffs. Hopefully the Christmas capon etc will also be good again this year. Just a pity that the shop in Faversham has closed!
Had a couple of deliveries and was ok until the driver turned round in the round and knocked our front wall over, all on cctv. To be fair the driver was excellent and very apologetic but I didn’t get one call from the company to sort it out. They just ignored me so I’m now going through my insurance and getting legal advice.won’t be using them again.
Overpriced for poor quality cuts. Pushy additional sales every time I visit. Just accept I only want what I put on the counter, if the quality was better I might want an extra pack for the freezer, but after 3 visits the quality has gone from just about acceptable to 100% rubbish. This review is for the new Notcutts Maidstone branch. I get a sense this outfit used to run a bunch of market meat vans by the selling style. Lamb kebabs where excellent week one, by week two the chunks where scrapy and fatty, no way worth over a tenner for 4. The streaky bacon packs tasted off, the worst streaky I,ve ever had, my advice stick with aldi,s £1.99 packs for bacon, and stay away from this place.
This butcher used to be good, however, something has changed during the pandemic and it’s now awful. Previously we had a pork shoulder delivered and when we opened it it was off. Thought it was just a one off so recently went into the Ashford store to get a whole beef fillet. When we got home and opened the vacuum bag the smell was rancid and it ended up straight in the bin. I have tried to contact Brogdale three times to give them to opportunity to resolve it and refund me. I haven’t had a reply which tells me all I need to know about this butcher. I won’t be buying from here ever again.
Absolutely dreadful butchers. The people working in Ruxley are unprofessional, disrespectful and beyond useless. I ordered a 9kilo turkey by phone and was told I could pick it up in the Ruxley branch. Went in to pick up the ordered turkey and they didn’t have it. The jumped up useless chap serving was about as helpful as a pair of glasses on a man with one ear. I had to call Canterbury to find out what was going on and was told that the biggest turkey they could do was 6kilo and that all the birds were on display. No apologies, not even a call to let me know that there was an issue. I have family coming round and needed a 9kilo bird, I ordered one in good faith and was badly let down by this dreadful company. Do not use, they are beyond useless! Go to Cottage Farm butchers in Polhill.
We ordered a large family pack for home delivery. When they delivered they literally chuck all the individual packs of meat on the floor on your doorstep, no bag, no outer packaging, nothing, just plastic sachets of meet on the damp and dirty floor outside the front door (I would love to upload a picture, unfortunately this does not allow me). I complained to the delivery guy and he said this is their 'contactless' way for safe delivery. I also called them on the phone to complaint. They are adamant that this is the right thing to do, their customers are more than happy with this, they do not see a food hygiene issue here, so I am supposed to pick the meat packs from the floor one by one, including the germs, and put them on my kitchen counter, and then transfer all these germs into my fridge or freezer of choice, excellent! They told me that if not happy with that, I could wipe the meat packs if I wanted them to be clean. They will not provide bags because 'they cost money' and while the driver carries the meat to your door in a big plastic crate, he chucks the meat packs on the floor instead of putting the crate down near the door and letting you pick up the meat from it (like most supermarkets do nowadays, it is not rocket science). They argued and argued that what they do is completely correct, which raises the question of what other things they may be doing behind closed doors, if this is their take on safe delivery and general food hygiene. It goes without saying that we rejected the order and will never order from them again.
Have used butcher of brogdale a few times now and been happy each time! Great deals, helpful staff and prompt service when ordered online! Would 100% recommend!
I've been using them for a year and have had fantastic quality meat at very good prices. Spend £30 a week which is minimum for a delivery. Would highly recommend
We have continually over the years tried and tried with this butcher from our local dobbies in gillingham. We have had to return a turkey at Christmas as it had gone off a d stank. We’ve had to return a 5 kg pallet of chicken breast because it was off and after giving it a wide berth for approx 3 years we tried again this weekend with some of their home made chicken kiev and they were off too. Smelt disgusting and tasted so sour. So so disappointing and let’s face it they aren’t cheap. I won’t be buying from there every again. 3 strikes and you’re out.
Bought some pack of chicken thighs last week and as i was portioning for freezing there was a slight whiff. However i got them out of the feezer last night with a view to using them but was still concerned. I asked my husband to check them once they had defrosted in the fridge and he confirmed what i had suspected; the chicken was off! The most god awful smell. Utterly rancid! I am so disappointed, not for the £10 loss, as we have been using Brogdale for years so had not expected this poor quality produce. I will not be buying anymore of there pre-packed poultry.
Never in all my life have i had such poor quality meat, pork chops off, minted lamb chops pure gristle and fat, shame really was looking for a supplier to get my weekly supplies from, wont be here!!!!
I have ordered many times online and over the phone with the butchers. Recently the quality of the meat has gone rapidly downhill. I bought two whole fillets and literally got one decent fillet steak from almost 4kgs of meat. The rest I diced and used for casserole meat, will not be purchasing again.
Fantastic local meat at a good price and what is more they deliver for free if the order is over £30. You need to try the tomahawk steaks. Bags of chicken thighs are around £10 and have around 14 in there so our BBQ was sizzling all summer :)
We have used Brogdale butchers for many years in Faversham, Whitstable and recently at Ruxley Manor and have always been treated in a friendly and helpful manor apart from a visit at Ruxley before Christmas 2019 but put that down to a stressful time of year. However, a visit today to Ruxley Manor proved that the previous experience was not a one off They could not have been more unhelpful if they tried and so rude! They spoke to us as though we were stupid. Such a shame as previously, especially at the Faversahm branch they were so polite and helpful. As much as I like the quality and indeed the price I think that’s probably me finished at Brogdale.
I recently purchased my first order . And we had the meat pie tonight, which we found excellent value and probably the best steak pie I have ever had , with really nice pastry that was not overpowering. If the rest of our order is at this quality I will be buying our meat from this company on a regular basis

Apr 30,2023I previously purchased some meat from the Ashford dobbies branch and most of it was good but we had a steak that when was opened smelled absolutely awful and we threw it out . I assumed it was just a one off, and the other meat we had purchased seemed okay . Because of this I gave them another try this time to buy a bacon wrapped turkey joint , I bought it home and opened it the next day for a roast dinner and the smell was rancid , it smelled rotten. I think if I would have tried to cook and eat this It would have made myself and our guests sick so ended up popping to a supermarket to buy meat at a fraction of the cost and which was perfectly fine . Don’t waste your money here !
