I spent 10 days in busua ghana with the mighty roar team and it’s been fab! I completed the medical programme as I am a student midwife and being able to experience the healthcare system and learn from the midwives over here has been amazing and an experience I will carry with me forever. Dinah and the team are beyond friendly and welcoming here! They have organised trips for us and ensured we felt safe and comfortable the whole duration of the trip. The busua locals are very friendly and will happily chat to you! I’ve had the best time and gained experience and memories which will last a lifetime🤍

I spent two months doing the childcare and medical programme and this trip exceeded my expectations. The medical programme was such an eye-opening experience for me, i was able to learn a lot just from observing the healthcare system in ghana. The childcare programme was a highlight too—I had so much fun, and there was always something going on to keep me involved. I especially enjoyed spending time with the kids. Both programmes gave me something different, but each one was really special in its own way. Dinah, Francis, Philomena, and Stephen are amazing – they were always around if we needed anything and they planned fun activities that really let us experience the culture and explore the area. The locals in Busua are so friendly and welcoming, it really made the whole experience even more special. I’ve had the best time and seriously couldn’t recommend it more!

Travelled with the mighty roar to Ghana 🇬🇭. Iv had the most fantastic time. Dinah has been amazing anything we need she’s there she organises and sorts out activities each day to fill your days with fun! We’ve had an immense time! Philomena makes the most beautiful meals for everyone, cooked with us and made us feel welcome. The whole family are so welcoming kind and attentive! I honestly cannot wait to come back. There’s always something to be doing and plenty of free time to shop, sea dip or dance the night away! Thank you to everyone who been apart of my experiences!

I stayed with The Mighty Roar in Sri Lanka in March 2025 for 3 weeks. The drivers were really good and felt safe when they were driving us in trips or collecting us from the airport. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and what one would expect from a hostel. The rooms had 8 people in and were a bit crammed for space! Unfortunately there was no wardrobes or shelves to store things, but did have a mirror. Having one toilet and shower for 8 girls was difficult! The rooms had air conditioning and mosquito nets were provided. Towels and blankets were provided also. The rooms all had lockable lockers in to lock valuables away, though some of the lockers didn’t work! Whenever there was a problem the staff were quick to try and rectify the problem. However some rooms had leaking roof and air cons leaking! For the medical experience, the hospital placements were eye opening and learnt a lot. Most of the nurses didn’t speak English but the doctors mostly spoke really good English. There were activities organised which was really good each day. However, when speaking to locals with regards to doing exactly the same activity we realised we were all being over-charged so I would recommend booking these privately! The weekend trips I did were really enjoyable. I did the Hill and Country and Maldives trip, though I wish could have been for longer as felt a bit rushed for time! The guide Karu on the Hill and Country trip was friendly and helpful. From someone that has never had Asian Cuisine before the food was okay, but with limited variability. The staff members were nice and accommodated dietary requirements for volunteers! Chris who was in charge of the UK side was patronising, condescending and very rude at times! I accidentally left some headphones at the accommodation and got a very rude response to asking about this from him. There were some safety concerns and incidents which happened outside of the accommodation that were raised and sadly the staff members were extremely dismissive of these genuine concerns! Staff members seem unable to take constructive criticism by volunteers and aren’t polite in their responses! Charith who was in charge, was rarely at the accommodation and was also dismissive of safety concerns and incidents which happened outside of the accommodation on the turtle programme and also was dismissive and not supportive to the females who raised these, which is totally unacceptable and extremely disappointing! Thaski was approachable and friendly, with the female staff being more respectful towards female volunteers! I would definitely come back to Sri Lanka to visit again but I would not recommend TMR Sri Lanka for people to stay in due to reasons listed above. Safety should be a priority and staff members should support and treat volunteers with respect, kindness and basic human decency and human manners!

I stayed for 2 weeks in Moshi Tanzania doing a childcare programme. This was was the best 2 weeks of my life, accommodation, staff and the people were amazing. I couldn’t have asked for a better stay in Tanzania. I cannot wait to come back for longer next year, a truly amazing experience. Staff are so so helpful with getting you places, trips and data for your phone! Would recommend the mighty roar to anyone that wanted to do something like this!

Best experience!! I went solo at 18 for 2 weeks to volunteer in Ghana. I’ve never been more immersed in such a rich culture. I was with other volunteers my age from the flight there to the flight back. I received support all the way through. If you’re thinking about going do it!!!

I spent a total of 8 weeks Moshi, Tanzania, when I had originally only planned 5. My decision to extend was down to the wonderful staff, beautiful trips, and amazing placement. The Tanzania team really made sure we were all happy and constantly busy!! I loved it lots and will definitely be returning.

I had the best time on my medical elective in Vietnam! From the first day I was picked up promptly at the airport and taken to the accommodation which was a lovely house with shared rooms and a nice terrace to relax on the top floor. I quickly made friends with others on the same programme and we had an amazing time exploring Ho Chi Minh City. In terms of the placement, we were taken to our wards every Monday and introduced to the doctors/nurses. We were then free to get as involved as we wanted throughout the week by seeing patients and discussing with the medical staff. The outreach team were the best, very supportive and friendly throughout and were able to do any sign offs we needed. We were also able to help with the childcare projects at the orphanages if we wanted. Would definitely recommend.

This trip has been a fantastic experience and i have made so many memories along the way. The childcare programme was so wholesome and the children loved it just as much as i did! The staff here are so lovely and make you feel so welcome with their support. They also offered a variety of opportunities to do in your free time which i really enjoyed. The vibe here is so nice and ive had a great time! Thank you so much for having me.

My time in Tanzania has been a blast! It was great to share hostel with other volunteers as it allowed us to bond to each other throughout our time in Moshi. I will never forget this experience and I’m so grateful for this opportunity to do my medical elective with you. The hostel is very cosy and has the facilities/services we need as volunteers: - The rooms are cleaned everyday including bedlinen and towel changes - Laundry is hand-washed and is available daily (shoes can be cleaned too especially after muddy hikes or visit to the school) - We have chefs whom we can request special dishes that we want to have for the next day - Lovely kitchen staff who serve our food and keep us entertained daily - Security guard 24/7 - We have 6 friendly drivers who are available to provide transport to/from placement and Moshi town from 8am until 6pm free of charge. They are still available after their working hours for additional charges (less than £1 each for big van for a big group) - Admin Team/coordinator who organises our transport with drivers, and other exciting tours/activities - Free Airport pick-up and drop-off (with additional charge) services The only constructive feedback I can think of is communication with drivers/getting transport - although this has been raised with the local team several times, it is still an ongoing issue until the day I left where volunteers get stuck in places because we are waiting for drivers to arrive for a long time. It might be better if the responsibility to call/message the drivers regarding transport is delegated to several people (rather than just 1 person). Nevertheless, the communication from admin team (Alice and team) has been exceptional. For example, when I raised the issue about broken fan on the first night, it was replaced within the next hour. I would highly recommend TMR Tanzania to anyone and I’ll do it all over again if I can. Thank you everyone for all your hard work!

My Sodwana experience was nothing like I expected it to be, I say that in the best way possible. I came to Sodwana as I’ve always wanted to scuba dive. I also decided I needed to leave home for a while and challenge myself. This journey really opened my eyes, I feel it’s taught me you can’t put a price on contentment. Take each day as it comes! A final note I would add is in my experience good times revolve around the people you surround yourself with. I’d like to thank Jo, Marius, Nick, Tajana, Lisa, James, Solomon and Samira. Even leaving I haven’t felt this happy in years.

It’s hard to put into words my experience in Ghana, Busua. The TMR team and the community will go above and beyond for you. Working as a midwife out here, has truly changed me as a midwife. A huge thank you and special mention to Dinah, Francis, Phillamina and Steven, such kind people. I’ve felt at home from the very start. I could not recommend the midwifery placement enough. Will definitely be back !! Thank you for having me ❤️

I had an amazing time in Vietnam on my medical elective and that is down to how friendly and nice all the staff at Outreach Vietnam were as well as all the other volunteers. I would definitely recommend this programme to other people who are considering a nice chill medical elective with lots of cultural experiences.

As soon as I arrived in Sri Lanka I felt so welcome and the staff were all lovely! The rooms were clean but basic. The medical program was well run and Thaksi helped with any problems we had. The staff were on hand for any problems we had also. We did the weekend trip (Hill country and Safari) and was a great way to see Sri Lanka- Karu was very helpful and gave us lots of tips. Special shout out to Kalu (bar man) for his effort for the karaoke and dj nights every Thursday! Will miss the fireworks. The location was really good- we were directly on the beach and was very accessible to the nearest town by tuktuk/car. I really recommend the programme as the medical placement gives you such an insight to the local healthcare system- even though it’s observational it’s really interesting. It’s really a lifetime experience and I really recommend it to anyone who wants to travel and volunteer!

TMR have been amazing! This experience is truly one that I’ll forever look back on. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture of Busua, Ghana. Special shout out to the Ghana TMR trip team, Dinah, Frances, Philimena, Steven for being our family whilst being here and every person in Busua who have shown what a true community looks like. I was on the midwifery placement at Dixcove, it is an experience I will never forget and will remain with me as I continue to practice in the UK. As soon as I land home, I’ll be planning my next trip. Thank you to the Ghana TMR team for making me feel at home and every day an adventure.
